Berkot's Super Foods — Attraction in Kankakee

Berkots is an old school grocery store with some modest prepared foods available. The quality of meat for the prices is great. The prices on produce are usually far lower than the competition, but the freshness is not always top tier.

Frozen items are hit and miss as their stock, prices, and selection are only okay. The sales tend to be very good and I find it easy to adapt meals to match sales.

Prepared foods, particularly the chicken, tends to be good or very good.

The parking lot is tight. The checkers range from slow to fast. The check out is almost always staffed. There is no self checkout. Cleanliness is okay. The place is clean, but you can easily get the impression that it is not since they do not appear to use gases and chemical additives on their products. I am fine with that. Others may find the smell off-putting.

If it is close and convenient, this is a great place to get your fresh food and occasional other items. I think it is also a good place to shop sale items to stock up if you are...

They do not have any organic produce.. no antibiotics free/gmo free meats.. nothing. Wasted my time coming here. It's an overpriced buyforless

Edit: I don't understand why I would need to call and talk to anyone. I mistakenly thought you had organic food. Google showed that you did. Why would anyone come here over walmart besides you're conveniently closer than walmart.. Having a selection of organic foods opens you up to another demographic of buyers. It's a buisness decision you would have to make, not me calling to tell you about it. Google it. People want organic, non gmo, non vaccinated, organic healthy food. Enough to make a difference. I am just warning anyone looking for it that your place is not where it is. I wish yall the best but I have no need...

I guess I have to give a star, but they deserve zero. I've never been in a Berkot's that I've been impressed with, and this location is bottom of the barrel. The store is a complete mess. It looks terrible and hard to find products. They have never changed the aisle guides and several of the coolers aren't even functional. It looks like it was an abandoned store that they just decided to load with some groceries. The morning crew doesn't open the doors on time and the checkout lines always take so long. They should have waited to open until they could get the store 100% up and running. It's a shame because people on that side of town have little options for stores....
