Alright so since some people are sometimes ignorant, and I also work at oceans of fun, here are some fact
The constant “head bobbing” from the lifeguards is us scanning the water, if we don’t scan the water constantly, we run the rush of losing our license, and run the risk of being banned from lifeguarding for a certain amount of time due to constant audits and other reasons
With the whistles.. if you hear like just a quick two quiet chirps or whistles, or sometimes loud, it’s us signaling to our other guards or leadership that say “hey can I take a bathroom break, can you watch my water really quickly!” Or “do you think you can refill my water bottle?” And also if your bothered by it, go make a FORMAL complaint to our lifeguard company “Ellis & Associates”
Control your children, I don’t know how many times children have disrespected me or my fellow guards, everyday it’s either your child being a brat or you being an actual Karen or Ken, and actually listen to us when we’re talking to you or giving you instructions, especially on top of slides and pool entrances, we’re giving information about your kid that’s too short for the wave pool to wear without a life jacket, it’s lifesaving information, yes we are lifeguards, yes we’re highly trained, we’re not giving you an option or opinion, you HAVE too do it, and just follow the rules and actually read the regulations
Control your emotions! Don’t lash out as usual if your having a bad day, if we’re ignoring you, like if we’re on stand or chair, it’s because if we look at you while on stand or chair, we run the risk of someone drowning, so we ignore, sorry if that seems rude and you think the world revolves around you, yeah honey, come back down to earth, also for certain slides like the drop slides, please take off your jewelry, don’t get pissed at us, we’re simply not trying to get your jewelry lost or damaged.
If it looks like we’re understaffed, no we’re actually over staffed, and I’m being serious, they started cutting our hours like crazy and that’s also including our leadership and more, so if you want to make a complaint, go do that at corporate or at least HR, and also fun fact, they also said “we’re doing budget cuts” so that’s why it seems so understaffed, when in fact it’s over staffed, like spilling on the sides. So yeah ❤️
Last but not least, we’re tryin to get our guest facilities up and clean, but we never can due to incompetence of our maintenance department, or due to the customs and extremely nasty and poor and unhygienic guests, so if you see a guest being a mess, call...
Read moreThis is a continuation of my World's of Fun Review - I maxed out on my character limit on Google: We went and got pizza near the entrance to the park. It was delicious, except they were out of pepperoni and only had cheese. Extra pepperoni that is ready would be good, as that is very popular. The staff behaved in an inappropriate manner. One lady tried to get us to buy a meal plan and was attempting to deter us from buying just the food with a credit card. I don't understand this. The food is available for sale without the meal plan. She then tried to not serve us the cheese pizza because a visitor ahead of us had ordered the pepperoni and was waiting on it. This is ridiculous. The woman ordered and paid for it knowing that she would have to wait and that the cheese was ready immediately. The employee tried to tell us that she only had two pieces of cheese left when there were two full pizzas clearly ready under a heat lamp behind her. Apparently she thinks that we cannot see. Another employee made inappropriate comments about how I was there with my daughter and niece, however did not have a wife or girlfriend with me. This is none of her business. She also made comments implying that she thought I was trying to hit on a visitor ahead of me in line. I didn't even talk to the other visitor. No offense, I just didn't know her and she was there with her significant other and kids. One employee made comments with an implication that I am racist. I am not and think this is inappropriate. I was wearing a 4th of July shirt and she made a comment about how that was inappropriate of me because I am from another country and mocking them since the theme of the park is 'worlds' of fun. I was doing no such thing. I am 100% American. The last time I checked, America is part of the world....this made no sense what so ever. Plus, it is still summer and the month of July. Once we get into later summer/fall I won't be wearing the shirt again until next year. Improvements to your park operations, efficiency, and staff/visitor relations would be much appreciated so that ALL can enjoy it and not be made to feel out of place!!! In regard to Oceans of Fun, we went over July 4th weekend. It wasn't that great. Lots of slides shut down for no apparent reason and long wait times. My daughter had to take off small metal earrings on one of the slides and ended up losing them. I don't understand how this was a concern of safety. I'd be more worried...
Read moreOceans of Fun: A Relaxing, Pricey, Tuesday Escape
Oceans of Fun offers a genuinely fun and relaxing day, especially if you visit on a less crowded weekday like Tuesday. The lines for attractions were reasonable, allowing for a laid-back experience rather than a frantic race from slide to slide. If your primary goal is to unwind and enjoy the water without the overwhelming crowds, this park delivers.
However, be prepared for a few notable drawbacks. The most significant is the cost. Between admission, and the readily available but exorbitantly priced food and drink (including alcoholic options), a day at Oceans of Fun can quickly become a hefty bill. To cut down on expenses, definitely bring in sealed water bottles; it's a simple way to save some cash.
The park also shows its age. Several slides were closed or broken, and the facilities clearly haven't been updated in over 20 years. Don't expect to be "wowed" by modern amenities or cutting-edge attractions. It's a classic waterpark experience, but one that's a bit past its prime.
One area that particularly stood out (and not in a good way) was the security at the entrance. It was, to put it mildly, a joke. We walked right through with two large bags completely unacknowledged until we reached the ticket scanner, who assumed we had already been screened. The security presence appeared to be staffed by high schoolers and what could best be described as "Paul Blart mall cops." This lax approach certainly raises questions about their procedures and even made us wonder if we could have had food delivered directly to the Cabana given the lack of scrutiny.
On that note, the entry level cabana was a nice upgrade. But no one checked us in or ever checked on us so maybe we could just use it for free? (Kidding)
It came with an overhead fan, lock box (that could easily be picked up so put it under the chairs), 2 lounge chairs and a 4 person table with umbrella. Convenient location close to main attractions and a quick 10sec walk to the rest rooms.
Despite the issues listed I have to say I had a relaxing day. So if you're willing to overlook the dated facilities, the high prices, and the questionable security, Oceans of Fun can provide a pleasant and relaxing day. Just go in with realistic expectations and a plan to manage your spending!
