Compared to a Maui flight we did with another company 3 years ago, this experience was not nearly as good. The most frustrating part was the booking and rescheduling. It seems it doesn't matter when you book your flight. They will call you to reschedule based on other bookings/trying to fill as many slots as possible. They outright told me they won't fly with fewer than 4, so if you book for 2, don't assume it's guaranteed unless 2 other people book... which seems like a them problem that they made into a me problem. Initially we booked for Tuesday at 4:30. It was rescheduled for 4:00 (no big deal). Then they called Monday morning to see if we could come THAT DAY and seemed exasperated that we weren't willing to drop everything else to accommodate their schedule. We weren't just sitting around waiting for our helicopter flight. We had other things to do. We briefly found an agreeable Monday afternoon time, before they realized the 4 on that flight included 1 person who had a comfort seat (even though that person paid for 2 seats, they only count as 1 person for the 4 person minimum to fly). Then it was moved to Wednesday at 3pm (the last day on the island, which made me nervous) and then again to Wednesday at 1pm. The flight itself was just not as good as our other experience. Our pilot Duke was knowledgeable but not very engaging. Unbeknownst to me, a kid was throwing up in a bag behind me almost the entire flight, so perhaps that explains the pilot's lack of engagement with our flight. The views were lovely, but honestly, seeing Molokai on our Maui flight 3 years ago was more impressive than the Na Pali coast. Given the option to do it again, I think I'd opt for a boat ride to see the coast. So overall it was worth taking the flight, I suppose, but not worth the stress of constant rebookings given the high price we paid. Oh, and they claim they have to seat people certain ways due to weight balance... which makes sense... but they are willing to forget all that if you pay for the $300 (per person) front seat upgrade. So I guess in that case, money matters more...
Read moreWe were fortunate to take two helicopter tours with Blue Hawaiian during our trip this year. We took our first trip from the Waikoloa location on the Big Island. The team there was professional, yet incredibly personable. We purchased the video from our flight, and one of the team member took extra time to check that our video was fully uploaded to the USB. We were appreciative of that because we traveled from Boston. Edmund our pilot was quite knowledgeable. It was a lovely experience.
When we went to Kauai we booked a tour out of Lihue. Our first booked flight was canceled due to weather. Fine, there are things our of our control. We understood and we lucky to be able to rebook prior to heading home. Our original flight was at 2:25pm, but when we were rebooked, our flight was at 8am. I received an email stating that early morning flights were discounted. When I asked the front desk about it, I received a very curt response. The weather is not their fault, so we would not receive the discount. I was merely curious as to whether the discount applied to us. It became clear that we were simply bodies that filled the seats on the helicopter. The tour itself was incredible. However, the customer service will remain in our memories along with the majestic scenery. We purchased the flight video from this tour as well. They were not busy in the office, but our USB was not checked for the video. We were told that we had 30 days to inform them if the video was not there. I will still take another Blue Hawaiian helicopter tour in the future. I hope it was just a bad couple of days for the team at the...

Our pilot, Mark, was phenomenal. Not only was he an incredibly skilled pilot, but he also brought the island to life with his engaging commentary. He shared fascinating stories, detailed the history behind the landmarks, and pointed out hidden gems that we never would have known about.
