I am not gonna lie, never really happy with the hawaiian desk at the lihue airport.
I moved to Kauai years ago, with my dogs certified as service dogs, doctors note, and flew here hawaiian with them, as service dogs, no issue, with quarantine approving service dog status. But when flying inter island, th hawaiian desk told me there policy has changed and that they will no longer allow them to fly as service animals. They stated the doctors not that I had, which had no date, as it was a diagnosis, was invalid, and they would not be able to let then fly in the cabin (two 10 pound chi mixes).
I had to argue with them to keep them in the cabin, which brought out a supervisor from the back who proceeded to berate us and let us know that they are making an expection.
Upon return to Kauai, in Honolulu, the same issue occurred and, with the same bags as on the way to Honolulu, the ticket person now told me in would have to check an bag and moved us to the last flight of the day...we had to work the next day.
After making is check a bag, we proceeded to the terminal, to wait three hours for our flight home. So we went to the hawaiian desk in the terminal, amd asked about seats in earlier flights. The attendant told us seats were available on all flights and we would have been able to change flights, but we had checked a bag. For no reason, same amount as last flight!!!!!!!! Basically took advantage of us.
Fuether, weeks later flying the first flight out to hnl from kauai, I checked in with about 20 minutes before my flight, and the rep told me I missed the flight. I told her that was inpossible, as I was just texted by co-workers that boarding had just started. The rep told me in would most likely not be let in the flight amd have to catch the next flight, and possibly pay a fee. They told me to rush and go to a specific gate. I thought the gate number they told me sounded odd and I asked them to repeat, at which point they wrote it on my boarding pass, and I breezed through tsa, as no one was at the airport yet.
I rushed to the gate they told me, at the far end of the terminal...which is fairly small, but has a section that is separate from the area I was used to boarding. Entering into the area of the terminal, I realized they had in fact told me a false gate number. I doubled back, found my gate and boarded, letting the gate attendant know about the misinformation. They made no apologies, and weren't much nicer.
I give the amount of stars because the in flight crew is almost always amazing. Always smiling and happy! They should teach the...
Read moreI had the most blatantly rude flight attendant I've ever come across in all my years of flying her name is Hi'ilei I believe. I had to use the restroom before the flight began but it was locked so I waited about 5 minutes. It was an emergency and since the plane was still boarding I figured the door might have been stuck or something I wasn't sure that anyone was actually in there so I gently knocked. The door flew open and all of the sudden a flight attendant (Hi'ilei) was staring at me demanding to know why I knocked on the door. I said to use the bathroom and she said in the tone of impatiently explaining something to a child "I'm almost finished washing my hands". It was a huge overreaction so I thought I'd explain to her my emergency and why I knocked. Her response? "You're not the only one who gets a period." In the rudest most patronizing tone imaginable continued "I'm sorry if I offended you by using the bathroom" I was the adult here and called out the fake apology and apologized in a real tone and shook her hand trying to make nice and she was still a completely unprofessional and rude person. It was the beginning of the first vacation I've had in forever and my first time with Hawaiian and put a bad taste...
Read moreI am extremely disappointed with Hawaiian Airlines. My husband and I were flying back to the mainland from our wedding and honeymoon in Hawaii. We wanted to make the return trip as fun & relaxing as possible to celebrate our wedding. On our flight home, we arrived at the gate to learn that they switched our plane to a smaller aircraft. Basically, everyone who purchased comfort seating got a huge downgrade and a promise of a “refund” for the difference in price to basic seating. We didn’t get any time frame of when we will receive our money back and were just told “sorry.” Needless to say, the gate area was filled with upset customers. At a minimum, I would have appreciated advance notice and then would have happily taken another flight. Nothing was offered aside from an apology and the whole situation was poorly handled. I will avoid this airline in the future. For the price, you should at least be able to trust that you will get what you paid for, or be offered decent customer service when...
