I do not recommend this company. They mistakenly rebooked our flight type from the photography flight to a fixed path flight with no indication. When we were about to board, the pilot, who we discovered later (after talking to the GM) said we could upgrade to the photography flight (the flight we were supposed to be on!) for an additional cost starting at $450 and going upward. Being that we were in the already on the helipad and did not have our phones to double check (this sounded nothing like what we saw on the website nor booked), and was told we needed to keep on schedule, we couldn’t agree to the upgrade but kept insisting that it should have been the photography flight. After the flight we confirmed it was indeed the photography flight we had booked. But because the pilot did not fly the photography flight (we can dictate the flight path and what we wanted to shoot), we missed most of the photos we were looking for. The only reason why we booked a helicopter flight in the first place. The company said they did indeed make a mistake about the flight type but there’s nothing we can do about it now since we flew. What a...
Read moreGreat time. Recommend Mauna Loa helicopters. Such a fun experience. This is essentially a 4 place helicopter. A Robinson R-44. We root the trip with the doors off. Which is a great experience. It’s a bit windy. So if you have long hair, tie it or bring a baseball cap and wear your headphones over the cap.
Awesome ride and views you simply cannot get from the ground.
There are several helicopter companies. So do your research. We chose mauna Lia because my wife and i got a private experience. We also didn’t have to worry about weight limits. And no extra fees for sitting in the front.
Tour went a solid hour.
You see all the same things. All companies fly the same routes. The only difference is one company can land at the jurasek falls. Other than that. They are all the same. Just different versions of helicopters. Some take 6-7 passengers so you are not guaranteed a window seat unless you pay extra.
But the Robinson helicopters are the only ones that can have the doors removed. Either one or all of them. So that is really a cool experience. And Mauna Loa offers jut 2-3 if you to go and you all have...
Read moreLet’s be clear: a helicopter ride in Kauai is the single best reason to visit these islands. And it has to be doors off. MLH offer private doors off tours at an excellent price (by island standards) that are comprehensive and enormously fun. Our pilot was wonderful and explained several interesting things about the islands. The stuff you see from above canNOT be seen from below: hence without a heli ride you haven’t seen Kauai. It is VERY important to be prepared for a cancellation. Weather can be very bad on the island and flights can be cancelled. Unfortunately, this means that likely they could be booked for your entire vacation before they can reschedule you. We were lucky that they had a cancellation but this factor needs to be considered when one is planning their activities...
