Don't get trapped into fIying on a terrible day. I booked a private bi-plane tour for myself and my girlfriend several days in advance. On the morning of my flight it was raining heavily in Princeville, with a 300 foot ceiling. Lihue, our take off airport a few miles away was reporting 1300 broken, 3000 ft. overcast with rain showers in the area. The real time GOES satellite image showed Kauai completely covered with clouds - even the Napali Coast which typically has better weather - and the real reason you pay for a flight seeing tour in Kauai. I had NO desire to go flying in an open cockpit plane in the clouds and rain and get soaking wet and potentially hypothermic. It's unfortunate the weather was NOT VFR (Visual Flight Rules) but that didn't matter to the nasty Jill, who is their operations manager. When I informed her I was cancelling - 1.5 hours before the flight - she went into an absolute uncontrolled rage, told me they were going to charge my credit card in full, then HUNG UP on me! Great customer service... I know their game: you show up for your flight and they take you on an abbreviated airplane ride, instead of the full island circle tour as promised. Too bad for you... you signed off on it before you get on board. I guess Jill isn't used to dealing with a highly experienced (34 years and counting) instrument rated pilot - only clueless tourists that she is able to trap into flying with her threats and nasty attitude. My hour long tour was the "Big Kahuna Air Tour" and I was in the company of my wife. The plane had room for 6 passengers in addition to the pilot, I was very eager to have this experience not only to see Kauai from above, but also to take photographs and video footage, which I am very passionate about. Unfortunately, the pilot, without asking anything, placed both me and my wife in the second row, where on the side there is the bar that holds the wing of the plane. I was on the left side, immediately behind the pilot. During the flight, those on the right were greatly privileged. Traveling on the left you were always too close to the mountain without having an overall view, while on the right side you were always a little further away, allowing you to see much better. I practically didn't see the Napali Coast well because we were very close to the mountain while when we went back, from the right side we could see both the mountain and the sea below well. Not to mention the great annoyance that the bar caused when taking photos and videos. Considerations: A truly very interesting tour, however during the booking phase, as is done with all commercial flights, the possibility of choosing seats should be given, possibly also offering differentiated prices because those in front or without any annoying impediments are certainly at a great advantage. They go above and beyond! The entire team at Air Ventures provided outstanding customer service to my family. It was our last day few hours on the island before our flight and we were on a tight schedule. My wife, daughter and I took the tour as my parents waited at the Air Ventures location. The airplane was clean, comfortable and they provided cold water and towels for added comfort. Our pilot, Eric, is awesome at what he does. He’s a great pilot and gave an exceptional tour which shows how knowledgeable he is of the island. Upon our return, we were so impressed with the tour that we convinced my parents to the take the next tour which was going to leave in a few minutes. As I mentioned earlier, we were on a tight schedule. We had a lot to do before making it back to our terminal with enough time left to check-in, etc. The staff at Air Ventures understood our situation so while my parents were up in the air taking their tour, one of the gentleman on their staff offered to drive me to the rental hub to return our rental vehicle. For no charge at all, he helped move our luggage from my rental to their company van, shuttled me to the rental hub, shuttled me back to Air Ventures and finally, took all of us to our terminal with ample time to check-in, etc. My parents were delighted to know that they were also able to take the tour without all of us cutting it too close.
