I don’t usually review “lookouts”, but in the last year the county has opened this new overlook to see the Hanalei National Wildlife Refuge. It is supposed to take the place of the narrow shoulder a quarter mile down the road. And they did a great job! The parking lot is, well, the most beautiful parking lot I’ve ever parked in. Read moreAttended by a kind and knowledgeable volunteer. Great way to get photos over the valley without pulling over on a narrow busy street. Restrooms and lots of empty parking spaces. New enough that there’s no shade. New plantings of important natives was enjoyable for me. Also got to spot some songbirds (Japanese white eye) but there’s no water feature up here so no rare birds.
