Kauai Hiking Adventures — Attraction in Kauai

I visited Kauai with a group of friends from Colorado in February of 2013. We would all consider ourselves competent in the outdoors, on hikes and adventures and we were all very excited to visit the island and truly explore parts of the island that most tourists have never ventured. In order to reach some of the more remote spots of the island, one of the guys on our trip had booked 2 hikes and a kayak trip with Kauai Adventures. I initially was not excited about having a guide for some of our adventures, as my ego can get in the way, and I did not want someone to 'hold my hand' during this vacation. My initial thoughts were dead wrong. This was our first trip to Kauai, and I can say that Scott and Dave from Kauai Hiking Adventures, were knowledgeable, safety conscious, and took us on a 3 very different jaw dropping, unforgettable adventures, that we may have never found without them. If you are going to Kauai, you will be doing yourself a favor by booking with them, as Scott and Dave will exceed your expectations and tailor your trip to your exact needs and/or limits. These guys know where to go, when to go, and what you must see. If you are visiting with family, friends, young or old, you can trust it will work. We’re pretty experienced hikers and campers, so we really debated whether we even needed a guide for our 4 day/3 night Kalalau adventure, but boy was it worth it. Chris was perfect: he upped our backpacking game; was a true guide in every respect, whether navigating the sometimes disappearing valley trails, sharing his impressive store of historical, cultural, or natural info, and even foraging incredible wild fruits; and let’s not forget the 5-star camp cooking that put ours to shame (e.g., coconut curry with fresh veggies anyone?). Let’s just say he whipped up a makeshift charcuterie plate while we swam beneath waterfalls in otherwise deserted river pools surrounded by palms, century plants, and gardens of wild ferns. And then there was the fire on the beach while we watched the full moon rise over the mountains. He took care of so much of the grunt work of camping that we could really enjoy this (possibly) once in a lifetime experience....

With a thoughtful start, discerning middle that gauged my stamina and interests, and culminating to a most memorable end, there was care and customized intention to the hike. It added textures to being within a geography than seems impossible for one guide to communicate so effortlessly. I left my hike all the more rich for the time and investment made.
