McBryde Sugar Plantation Cemetery — Attraction in Kauai

Found this cemetery by accident while at Glass Beach. Glad we did. It’s an old cemetery which at first seems sketchy because of all the broken glass until you realize why it’s there. It’s there because families remember their loved ones and brought flowers and placed them in glass jars/bottles which have been broken over the years from storms and high winds. Once you realize that, it gives you a new appreciation for family bonds and cherished ancestors. Graves go way back in time to some more recent but nothing very new. Old cemetery most recent headstones from the 1970s. Dirt road going up to it might be easier to park at glass Beach and walk over to it. Not a lot of information at the cemetery explaining anything about it. Lot of headstones with either Chinese or Philippine writing on them I don't know how to tell the difference. lot of glass on the ground seems to get vandalized...

Cemetery was interesting, but the real charm was right off the cliff-face. There was a hole that the waves push water up through and would cause violent eruptions.
