As a resident of Kauai, I am often asked for restaurant recommendations from friends visiting and the first place that I always steer them to is Sunset Bar and Grill. It is without a doubt our favorite restaurant in Kauai. Every single thing about it is simply incredible. From the moment you walk in you immediately feel as if you are family and are home for dinner. The owner, Mr. Peng Tay greets you and always thanks you for coming, he shares the cooking duties with his wife Angela and Tony who can turn the simplest dish into the most delicious thing you’ve ever had. Every item on the menu is impeccable, from a simple salad to the most complex dish, everything is just so good. Even the side veggies you get with a meal are the best I have ever had. The servers, Jess, Iesha, Lisa, Brandy, Tammy and Whitney all are warm, friendly, informative and just a joy to be taken care of by. The bartenders, Jonny and Thersha offer up the most delightful typical and tropical drinks that never disappoint. I can’t even imagine how many times we have eaten there and every time it exceeds the previous time. It is the best restaurant here in Kauai and not...
Read moreFirst of all, the waitress was good. She was very sweet and took care of most of the problems that came up. But, I was brought dirty silverware. Not even subtly dirty ones but there was crusted food on BOTH of the forks. Then, I ordered the Lava Flow Pina Colada and I drank a few sips and asked if it was accidentally made virgin and she assured me it was not. Then when I was more than halfway done with the drink, she brings me a shot of the rum and said that the bartender thinks he forgot to put the alcohol in. Like I was going to put that full amount in my nearly done drink at this point. It would seem like better service to just make a new one or even take the charge off. That part was just terrible. It wasn’t even a minute after I asked about the drink but like maybe 10 minutes. The food overall was average as well. Nothing spectacular at all...

Bambi was our high energy personable waitress, that ran the show with serving drinks and food. We sat on the patio area, my friend ordered a burger plate, and I had beers for lunch. The food was good, the beer was cold, the service awesome.
There were numerous TV's on the patio area that Bambi set us up on to watch football. As we were watching the game, a guy came in with a bucket of fish for the restaurant's catch of the day, so we checked it out. The owner came over, and we got our picture taken with a fresh Mahi-mahi.
Cool place, good food, good atmosphere, good vibe. Stop in if you get a chance and enjoy...
