I visited here to watch my son play in the Plymouth High School German band. This time of year they have a gingerbread house festival. Schools and people from around Sheboygan County can submit gingerbread houses to be displayed throughout December. When you visit they give you little colored pieces of paper that match the color of different age group Gingerbread houses. One color each. As you walk around you then vote on the one you like the best from each category. I'm not sure when they decide who the winner is. There were some amazing gingerbread houses. The Walderhaus is a beautiful building. I won't claim to remember the true history of the place because the tour I had was decades ago, but I think it was built to resemble a building from the home country of the Kohler family. Such a unique and beautiful building.

I heard of the Wälderhaus by chance and i had to go there. Since the origin of the Wälderhaus and the Kohler history comes from my neighborhood back home. It was really cool to fly to another Continent and still feel like home 😁 the Wälderhaus is really interesting to see and the 1 hour tour is really worth it. If you are interested to hear about Wälder traditions (tiny part in the far west of austria) you should really check it out.

The story of this building, and how it came into existence, and what it means to the family, is something to truly understand. Built by the daughter of the first Kohler, who came to America, it resembles the buildings that he grew up in. It’s tied to the Girl Scouts, is a story to truly understand. The building itself is beautiful, and the tour guides are fantastic. Take your time visiting and taking the tour. It’s free.
