My daughter was visiting for the first time in almost 2 years from Texas for my birthday and had specifically put this stop at the top of her itinerary for us, very eager to show me and her little sister around and take us to get some smoothies, sorbet and coffee. We just missed them closing Friday on the way up as they close at 5 and we couldn't find the cafe the first try since it is located within the courtyards of another place and not very well advertised on the property. We tried again Monday close to close planning to take the purchase to go to take to the beach with us before heading home to Madison from our air bnb weekend in two rivers. When we arrived about ten minutes till close, everyone in the outter grounds and business areas we interacted with was friendly and pleasant! A valet told us where to park and how to find the cafe, two front desk workers guided me to the restroom as my daughters waited for our order, a cleaning lady created me near the restrooms and wished me a pleasant time at the greenhouse and a administrative gal with a name tag passed me in the halls of the inner courtyard with a pleasant greeting but unfortunately the waitress outside the greenhouse seemed sad, scared and avoiding eye contact, the young lady who took our order also did not seem to want to engage and was withdrawn and seemed frustrated. My daughters got their items in a timely manner and while my s.oothie took longer it seems another customer may have taken the one made for me because we had not received it by the time the clock hit closing hour and the 2nd worker in the cafe, a middle aged angry seeming man, very rudely informed them that they'd closed and wanted them to leave. My daughters informed him they were still waiting for the rest of our order and without conversating further he walked away and demanded the other worker tell him if they should still be waiting for a smoothie because they'd claimed they were. She said she'd made it but clearly we did not have a smoothie. There were about 4 other adults and 5 or 6 children in the cafe also but we did not see them approach the others and ask them to leave. When the smoothie was finally presented it was dropped on the table with very little care or apology for the treatment or wait. We ordered the mango sorbet, the green goddess smoothie and I believe my daughter ordered some kind of Carmel latte. My smoothie tasted of straight whipped wheat grass alone, the mango sorbet was made from unripe mangos of my pallet is correct and the coffee tasted miraculously like burned spaghetti Os. Not the type of "impressive" we were hoping to expect on our visit! The courtyard and garden and especially the Greenhouse building itself are truly gorgeous and definitely what made us not regret our visit though! The grounds they are located on are also very beautiful and rich with history and class! An amazing place to visit if you can avoid the nasty wrath of the cafe staff! Also heads up that the prices in the cafe are very high which I hope is a direct result of extremely high ingredients meant to be healthier for you because you are not paying for higher quality of taste...
Read moreI came just to visit The Greenhouse and garden area. Staff was very friendly all over in The Greenhouse and Kohler staff. I had a cinnamon roll, which was excellent, and a flight of four lattes - raspberry mocha, caradom, salted carmel and lavender. The latte flight was larger than I expected and definitely sharable, but all were very good. When I go back I now know my favorites were the raspberry mocha and lavender latte. It was never packed but a flow with guests getting ready to golf or start their day with other activities.
I did walk around the garden and it was so pretty! I was quite and very enjoyable. I did take a few pictures when I could being mindful to not capture others enjoying their time. There was more seating outside than I excepted and a lot of shade in the morning - I'm not sure about afternoon shade.
To access, you have to go into the main entrance of The American Club. I recommend asking the staff at the door or front desk...
Read moreFirst - if you are looking for an adorbs Instagram-able place - this is it. But it ends there. aside from the ONE person working his kiester off on a Sunday this place it a wee bit pompous, I get it, it is the American club, and so that's why I expected more. The latte flight... plastic tumblers. the mint ice cream...it is fresh mint, I get it, but there is a difference between having fresh ingredients and just making junk. Toothpaste chocolate ice cream should have been the name. The baked good were ehh, I can get the same for less (HOW CRAZY IS THAT) at Starbuck's. The lavender lemon frost was... ok - but again, so what - it was, where it is and the prices, my expectations just weren't met and then do you put that adorbs building on insta when the result is super lackluster, ehh... and holy tightness batman, def leave the any differently-abled anything at the top of the stairs, you won't have room but again it was...
