City of La Grande Parks & Recreation Department — Attraction in La Grande

Hello. I am Karen. You may have met me at Morgan Lake as camp host. In two weeks the park will be closed and I will be heading out. I do want to say this was a great experience. To be honest the first week here I had heard some stories that had me questioning my hasty decision. But either the stories were exaggerated or things have really settled down. It was quiet and calm for the most part. I always felt safe. I met some wonderful people up here. Everyone is so kind. On a hot day a gentleman brought me ice cream. A couple days ago a lady stopped to see if I was warm enough or should she bring me blankets. There seems to be a balance here. There is the camping, hiking and fishing. Lots of water play, swimming, tubes, boats, canoeing. Crawdadding. Hermiston and LaGrande school came up for a bbq. They were remarkable you could not even tell they had been there. They left it so clean. I saw family pictures being taken, birthday parties for little kids. Dog walkers all over the place. Prewedding parties, joggers. I guess my point is there is 100 different things going on and no one was crowded, Room for everyone and everything. Morgan Lake City Park is only getting worse. Poor management and lack of protection or patrols of this City Park is promoting its rapid decay. Lots of nails in the parking from illegal camp fires, human waste and toilet paper, broken glass, and all sorts of garbage.... Campers with loud music, generators and late night party-ers make it less than pleasant. Some of the picnic tables remain broken, as do sun covers---now for years. The current Parks manager promotes lots of use but will not spend the resources or enforce rules to protect it. Almost all the big trees show signs of being hacked and sawed---some cut down. The water is not tested to tell users if the algae is benign or toxic to humans and dogs. Tell the Mayor and City Council of LaGrande to protect this City Park before it is burned to the ground by a careless fire or continues being hacked up and damaged by a few slobs with...

Make sure when you rent anything threw The Parks and Recreation of La Grande you get a receipt or they may rent it out from under you like they just did to me. I'm more than unhappy it's a week away from my brother's graduation and I have to find a new spot with tables chairs and shade. The worst part is I don't get my $150 I paid into the rental (that's as on the 2nd of June) until the 10th of June. Now I have no idea how I'm going to get ALL of the new necessities such as chairs and tables for his graduation party that about 30+ people were invited to.
