Le Bebe Cakes Bakery & Coffee & Tea House — Restaurant in La Grande

I visited this store on two separate occasions and, unfortunately, had disappointing experiences both times due to poor customer service. On my first visit, I politely asked an employee about one of the pastries, but was met with an annoyed response and a dismissive attitude that made me feel unwelcome. Hoping this was just an isolated incident, I decided to return a few weeks later to try their highly recommended macarons.

During my second visit, I inquired about the available flavors, as none of the items were labeled with names or prices. The employee only mentioned one flavor out of several options and then walked away to use their phone, leaving my friend and me confused. When the employee returned, their body language and heavy sighs suggested we were an inconvenience rather than valued customers.

When I asked how fresh the desserts were, the employee responded with noticeable irritation, simply saying they were "pretty fresh." My friend then politely asked for clarification, to which the employee sharply replied, "a few days." I found this concerning, as I would expect fresh offerings or, at the very least, clear and accurate information.

Great place, great ambiance, but beware there is NO product information provided. My daughter was given a “chocolate” cupcake & discovered only after it was in her mouth, that it has a peanut butter/chocolate mousse on top of it. After inquiring again with the employee, she assured us that it’s only chocolate. I asked her to please find out for certain. She asked the baker/owner who confirmed it was peanut butter & chocolate. I asked why the employee didn’t know product knowledge and why it wasn’t clearly marked for those who have peanut allergies? She apologized. I explained this type of error could have caused my daughter to stop breathing. In detail: The latte that first I had was good & became amazing when I got an iced one another time, something that is near impossible to find in La Grande. My husband liked the drip coffee he had, too (another rarity in a town full of drive-up espresso places, but little actual coffee except for Starbucks... yuck). They don't, but should, do actual iced coffee, just pour it over ice which just ends up lukewarm or watered down.
