Through the last ten years my husband and I have gone here often however since the remodel their quality of food has gone down, their customer service has bombed and their prices have increased. Point in fact: I ordered sushi tonight by phone at 5:40 to go. The gal on the phone said it would be about 25 minutes which I thought was fine because it’s the last day of school and I figured they’d be busy with graduation parties and it’s friday. I arrive to pick it up at 6:11. The waitress at the register didn’t acknowledge me until she had finished on the computer, not more than a minute or two but still not good. Another waitress checked on the food and said that it wasn’t ready yet, she guessed it had been put behind a table of 15’s order. I asked if it would be long and she said no it’d be right out. I guess I looked concerned because she then said not more than 5 minutes. I waited a good 20 minutes before I asked about it at which time I was told it was almost done and I asked if I could go ahead and pay for it. The waitress at the register didn’t know how to look up a to go order! Another waitress did it for her. 10 minutes later I received my food. I got in my car and checked the order and they had not included the nigiri. So I headed back in and the waitress that had handled the order was on her way out to find me and fix it. An hour after my ordered was called in I was back in my car. First of all I would not have made the order if I’d known it would take them an hour. Second I would have been fine if they had told me initially that the so called 5 minute wait would actually be more like a half hour wait, again I would have just canceled the ordered and moved on. Third, I should have known better because every time we eat there it takes an exorbitant amount of time for our food to appear. And lastly, the comments about their servers being rude, is absolutely correct. We rarely tip because their service and personnel haven’t got the first clue what their job is, customer service with respect. I WILL NEVER EAT THERE OR ORDER FROM THERE AGAIN. Which is sad because their sushi is great and the sweet asian lady that I believe is owner is just so...
Read moreDecent prices for a sit-down restaurant, but you would be better off doing Chinese take-out.
I ordered General Tso's Chicken, an egg roll, and white rice. American Chinese food staples. Easy, right? Wrong. The General Tso's Chicken was actually just Chinese chicken fingers with some sauces on the side--didn't even resemble General Tso's Chicken, the egg roll was a massive blob that looked like an undercooked pasty, and the rice looked dry and gross. Unappetizing and not what I ordered, I sent it back and instead got the chicken Pad Thai--another staple, should be simple enough to get right. The Pad Thai was satisfactory, but was missing the bean sprouts and ground peanuts (received whole nuts--whatever) described in the menu. I ate about half and reckoned that I would be sick if I ate anymore.
Oh, and I can't forget to mention the soup: they gave me (complimentary?) Asian soup before my meal. I opted for the most popular, and what I received was a very familiar soup from my childhood, it tasted exactly like Campbell's canned chicken noodle soup, the only difference being that it looked like they ran in through a blender first. I took one bite and pushed it away, rather repulsed at even the sight of it. They were kind enough to leave it in front of me the entire meal, taking any other dishes I put near it on the edge of the table. Were the wait staff not curious about why I wasn't eating it, or is this a normal response to the food at Golden Crown?
I really want to give this place 1 star, but a beer and a meal was only $12.45 and the locals seem to like it. I think my server said it best, "I grew up in La Grande and this is the only Asian food...
Read moreI have eaten at this restaurant many times and was a regular delivery customer. I have dealt with mistakes that were quickly rectified and continued to be a customer because the food was good. Tonight, I wanted to order, but when the phone was picked up, it was set down and I could hear the noise of a keyboard clicking, customers paying, and conversations, but no "Hello" or "Could you hold please?" I waited for 9 minutes and 13 seconds to see if anyone would notice. I even called out hello numerous times. The phone was finally picked up, but hung up. I tried to call back 8 times and on the 9th try I got a young woman on the phone. I recognized her from a previous time I ordered because she said, "Mandarian" for Mandarin Chicken. I asked for the owner, Frankie, because I wanted him to know what happened, but she told me he was too busy packing up an order for an angry customer. Perhaps she could have taken a message for him to call me back? No. Then she was unable to understand I wanted delivery, which I stated several times, once in the beginning and a couple times to correct her when she gave me my total and told me it would be ready for pick up in about 30 minutes. I then told her I would like to pay with a credit card and she said, "Um, I think we can do that." She did it before with my previous experience about a week ago. I just gave up and told her to cancel the order and I won't be calling again. Although I have liked the food, service has gone down hill. This was the last...
