As Canadians and Quebecers, we have so much respect for our fellows « Acadiens » and we visited the Acadian Cultural Centre with interest and curiosity. We learned a lot and had not realized that le « Grand derangement » brought Acadians in many places in the USA. Rangers at the Centre were kind and helpful. The movie presented is very informative but presents Acadians as victims and I think that we need to celebrate their resilience. I was expecting the movie to be available in French (more than just the subtitles) but I understand most of the visitors don’t speak French. Boys got their junior ranger badge and had fun finding the answers in the exhibit. The centre is free and we truly...

This is a great place to start your visit to Cajun country. There are a lot of exhibits about the history and culture of the Cajun people and there’s a film about the history of the Cajun shown every hour on the hour until 3pm. The film and the exhibits could use some updating, but they still provide a lot of useful information even if they are a bit dated. The rangers are a great source of information about the local area and culture as well. There’s a ranger talk most days at 2:45. The gift shop has lots of cool books, cds and gifts related to the local culture. There’s bathrooms and water fountains as well. Walk along the bayou on the other side of the parking lot for some...

This place is definitely a must visit if you pass by Lafayette!!! It’s a little museum that shows the culture and history of Acadian people with beautiful greens in the surrounding. The staff Dave and William are incredibly hospital and knowledgeable with what they share. They so patiently explained everything to me and their own passion totally made me fall in love with Acadian and Cajun cultures and LA as a whole. The museum is open till 4pm and supposed to have a film that runs hourly. (Last show starts at 3pm) Too bad that I missed the film! But I walked away feeling a sense of wonder and appreciation for this land and its people... definitely have to come...

The National Park Service has a beautiful exhibit here. The movie was very moving and taught me a lot about the Acadian story. It is a history that needs to be remembered and understood. I have a new appreciation for my wife and her ancestors. The Ranger (William) was very helpful and made our visit special. The exhibits are colorful and speak to a rich history where family is one of the most important things. Check this place out!

Its a nice visitor center type spot that gives you great history on the Acadiana region and admission was free of charge. The ranger on duty gave us a presentation of the makeshift musical instruments. The gift shop on property is reasonably priced. Parking is great and the facility is right up the road from Vermilionville Historical Village
