Since the Farmers Market has been going on, part of the success of each Saturday is the volunteer musicians that come and play. It creates an aural flavor that enhances the"local" flavor. I have been there many times over the years to play and every time that I have gone the parking rules have changed. This past Saturday, I parked in the shopping cener at the end of Bertrand. I parked where I had parked the last time, in front of the UPS store with no problems. This time when I returned to my car, it was gone. It had been towed by Anybody's towing. When I talked to someone at the Farmer's market they showed me the roughly 12"x 16" posted signs around the Market and the bank but from a car entering from Bertrand you don't see them. Business as usual, so I thought. I'm not in the bank parking lot, and there were maybe five or six cars in that entire shopping center parking lot. The towing company, Anybody's , on Cameron St. told me I needed $300. in cash to get it back and she would only be there until 12:30. well it was already 11:30 and the banks close at 12 and I was now on foot. So I WALKED with my instrument, chair and waterbottle home to Scott. I am 73 years old, without alot of money and frankly I felt like I had been robbed. I cant pick my car up until Monday morning. I will never attend another Farmers Market or other activity at Moncus Park. Not that anyone cares. To those in command I would make it abundantly clear, with a BIG sign that says "Parking in Moncus Park Only" And I warn...
Read moreLadies and gentlemen, it is a decent Market, but with far too much concentration on Craft and not nearly enough concentration on farmers. That having been said, it was usually a pretty decent place to go on a Saturday morning, until the pandemic, when vendors and customers alike seemed to decide en masse that masks are not worth their time, and distancing is a myth. Now, the businesses that we frequent are few and far between, we only stay there long enough to get what we want and we leave, and we pass up many people that we would normally shop with, because they are not masked, and don't impose any distancing on their customers. Think what you will, and this disease is deadly, and I don't want to bring it home to my family. I think the Lafayette Farmers & Artisans Market needs to stand up and protect its customers, and insist on basic...
Read moreToday marked my second visit in recent months to this event as a musician and artist. While I live hundreds of miles away, I made the journey twice this year because I am passionate about homegrown events where I can meet other creatives and entrepreneurs who share their vision. I drove 6 hours for this event so I could partake in “buy leauxcal” and support small and independent artisans — only to end up having my car towed. From this day forward, the underworld car-towing racket that exists around the perimeter of Moncus Park at this weekly event AND the genuine local artists who have taken the time to set up and promote their energy will no longer benefit from my...
