This is a Lithuanian Cemetery on 111th street between Cicero avenue and Pulaski. 4 of my family generations are buried at St. Casimir. In the last 5 years the Cemetery has declined. It used to be completely enclosed by an iron fence. There are gates to drive in and close at dusk, but access for bikers, joggers and trespasser is 24/7, how is that! One day I saw several wild life signs and wondered what wild life beside the common duck could be in a city cemetery? When I got to my family graveside there were 2 deer laying on top of my grandfather's flat stone. This disrespect of Consecrated ground seemed to be running a muck leaving deer poop on the graves and flat stones. Who wants to visit family when there is poop everywhere? The ground my family paid for is to be legally kept up including maintaining the headstones. Many of the grave stones are walking off the bases and have fallen, or are tilting ready to crush anyone who happens to be in its way, anyone in it path will be crushed to death. If you child is missing look under the rock. The South East corner of the Cemetery is in very poor condition, Years ago vandles got into the Cemetery and destroyed many of the Crosses on top of the headstones and are still left in disrepair. Even though it may be the oldest part of the Cemetery it should be repaired and families notified. As for the deer, they belong in the forest preserve and need to be removed. They carry Lymes disease and can become aggressive especially during mating season, they have chewed away, the perennials and bushes as a meal leaving the graves bare. Plastic flowers were forbidden now its permitted because of accommodation of wildlife. Cheap excuse. The cemetery needs to be sealed off, closed means closed. I called the Cemetery office and told them what my findings were, someone supposed to call me back but 2 months later I still haven't received a return call. It's a sad day in Heaven. The Office is always happy to respond to positive reviews, but when when someone says something that is reflects they need correction they are silent. Maybe the news would be interested in this story. I would be happy to share my...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhile visiting Chicago my daughter and I wanted to find my grandparents who were buried here. The cemetery is HUGE! It is organized by sections, lots then grave numbers. There are posts with the section numbers when driving through. Their website has an option to "find your loved one" which will send you an email link to look them up by name. Then you're given a section lot and grave number for your loved one. They also provide a section map and a map of your specific section with the lot numbers this helped a LOT in finding my grandparents! It narrowed it down to about 4-5 graves. All of the graves are well kept. Ours and the surrounding ones were clean and free of debris. We saw signs for "do not feed wildlife" and found out why as we were leaving.. There were 3-4 bucks grazing and...
