We took my kids (6 and 9) to the Pirate escape room geared specifically towards kids. First of all I LOVE that they only charged for the kids, so we could truly sit back and just watch and enjoy the show.
My expectations were low for a room aimed specifically at kids. It is so hard to hit the sweet spot of challenging but doable. Most kids rooms are insultingly easy or frustratingly hard and they need their hand held the whole time. Theirs was the perfect level for my puzzle kids to complete almost entirely on their own.
I love that Dan, our host, did not talk down to the kids or treat them like they needed tons of help. The hint system is so perfect- finding gold coins in the room was an extra little dopamine hit, and they felt so in charge of their hints. The two hints they did receive were so perfectly done- not just telling them what to do, but a rhyme to give them a nudge.
The room itself was phenomenal. Even the entrance to the room is a tiny door for the kids, which sets the vibe so well. The attention to detail made it very immersive, and the puzzles were so well constructed, and creative! I have been designing puzzle hunts and escape room type challenges for years, so most escape puzzles are familiar to me. There were puzzles in here that I was so impressed with with the creativity. The flow and pacing of these puzzles was perfect. Everything was on the kids level, and honestly easier for the kids to get the “aha!” Moment before the adults could even help. There were surprises I did not expect at all and it was just a delight.
My kids had an absolute blast, and we had a blast watching them. Dan let me sneak in before hand to add some birthday surprises, it was just all around a phenomenal experience.
This is a perfect room for kids, and honestly would be a wonderful room for anybody new to escape rooms to pick up on different mechanics.
Based purely on the kids rooms this is one of my top three rooms in colorado. I can’t wait to come back and try the adult rooms, will report...
Read moreWe did every room except Puzzle Pirate and thoroughly enjoyed our experience. It is clear that the owners take pride in their puzzles and room design. We met them when we arrived and they were both incredibly friendly and excited to share their creations with us. There are a lot of unique ways to solve puzzles and get codes that we haven’t seen used before, or were used in slightly different ways. The Rocky Mountain Zephyr, Strike it Rich!, and Back to the Diner in particular had incredible theming and immersion. We did all of the rooms with two people and that was perfect for us as experienced escapers. I would not recommend more than four people in any room, and two is a good number for the Lighthouse (although this is noted as their most difficult room, we found the Diner to be more challenging). If you have a larger group, I would recommend the Diner as there is more space and a lot to do. The Zephyr would be a good one if you have younger kids in your group. Staff were very friendly and were happy to talk about the rooms with us after each one, which is something we really enjoy. Our GM for the Diner and the Lighthouse did an excellent job of only speaking up when we got really stuck or asked for a nudge, and provided just enough to get us going in the right direction without giving any answers. He also had obvious enthusiasm for escape rooms, a huge plus. Would highly recommend...
Read moreTick Tock, Tick Tock....the sand rushed through the hourglass, and we finished with 15 seconds to spare! We have done all 3 rooms at the Golden Puzzle Room. We did the First Mission with our 5 year old and she loved it. My husband and I did The Nightingale and The Rocky Mountain Zephyr together, although had my daughter been a little bit older I think she would have really enjoyed participating in those too. I really appreciated that we were the only ones involved in the room, at the Golden Puzzle Room they don't mix groups like they do at other puzzle rooms. The First Mission was great to solve as a family, and the other two rooms were super fun date nights for my husband and me. You really get to test your communication skills and work together. The rooms were a great mix of simple sleuthing and brain crunching puzzling. The owners have clearly put a lot of thought into the design of the rooms and have a great mix of different types of puzzles to solve. They were hospitable and helpful and seemed to enjoy sharing their rooms with us as much as we enjoyed doing them. I highly recommend this...
