Kolache House Bakery — Restaurant in Lakewood

HORRIBLE PLACE TO WORK. I was told to be here at 3 am my first day, the kitchen lead that day was supposed to be there at 3 as well to let everyone in. She wasnt there and never even called anyone to let them know. After an hour of waiting in the cold till 4 am on colfax the owner finally showed and let us in. The lead finally showed up after 6 am almost 3 hours late and they didnt even care. As soon as the owner left the lead then threw her hat off and it really grossed me out because her hair is more than 2 or 3 feet long :/ I was literally the only employee that went streight to the sink to wash hands and the whole day I never saw anyone else wash hands. Coming from 8 plus years as a serv safe certified cook this was really "off" to me. Food sits out in a bowl for 4 am till about 1 or 2 making kolaches with them and they are sitting that long at room temperature. This was a place where kids are allowed to run the adults and lets just say I never returned... After all of this I then receive an EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL HOSTILE text from the owner about respecting her "lead" who had me waiting my first day in the cold unsafe off of colfax ave. I was shocked because the owner seemed so nice at first and professional..big mistake. As a 30 year old with 2 kids and plenty of experience I am actually glad this...

I am a teacher, and for the last day of school before winter break, I thought it would be nice to have a little kolache party for my classes. Kolaches are very special in my family and many of my students here have never had one (I'm from Houston and kolache bakeries are everywhere).

I came in around 12 pm on 12/19/17 to buy 50 kolaches for the next morning, but forgot to call ahead (I know, one of the worst customers!). Despite this, the staff working the front, Sabrina and Natalie, were wonderful and so accomodating. I was allowed to purchase the remaining savory kolaches they had including the ones fresh out of the oven, and they even threw in a few extra breakfast kolaches for no charge. The two of them packaged everything neatly and labeled the boxes with which type of kolache was inside. I was so impressed with the excellent customer service!

The kolaches are fantastic, on par or better than the ones from home. My students ate every last one! We especially loved the chorizo with egg and the jalapeno poppers!

The kolaches are really great here and if it was just this I would rate it a 5. However the customer service is terrible. I got there at 1 and the girl who was working had put most of the kolaches away. I really wanted a sweet one and she said she couldn’t do it because it was already in the fridge. Me and my friends were super disappointed because we just had drove 6 hours and detoured in Denver specifically for this bakery because the food is that good. She said she couldn’t do anything and we just accepted it. Then about ten minutes later a new customer arrives and asks for a sweet kolaches and she says no worries I’ll get one for you from the fridge. We were genuinely appalled. It just didn’t feel fair at all. For that I have to give the place a 3. If your store is open till 2 then the food should still be being served till then if not then close the store at 1.
