Read moreOn August 24, 2025, my mom, sister, and I visited the Volunteers of America thrift store on Cedar Street, thrilled to shop for unique finds. We filled our carts and entered the largest fitting room together, as we always do at thrift stores to share opinions and assist each other. What followed was utterly humiliating. A staff member aggressively banged on the door, shouting that carts weren’t allowed. We politely explained we were organizing items and dressing, but the banging and yelling continued, demanding we “come out now.” The same staff member then berated us for having three people in one room and mocked our “insane amount” of items, saying, “I’m taking a picture of this,” implying we wouldn’t buy them. As frequent thrift shoppers who regularly make large purchases, this was deeply insulting. The humiliation didn’t end there. After purchasing the few items we could try on, the cashier was polite, but as we left, another employee shouted “goodbye Karens” at the top of his lungs, mocking us in front of others. This degrading treatment left us feeling belittled and unwelcome, ruining what should have been a joyful outing. They claimed a sign prohibited carts and multiple people, but we saw none, and Goodwill—where we shopped later that day without issue—allows both. Despite the great selection, the staff’s hostile, unprofessional behavior was unacceptable. Clear signage and basic respect are urgently needed. We will...
Read moreThis is a very large thrift store and has a good amount of merchandise that is continually rotating. Overall the store is clean and parking is ok. The staff are nice enough. For such a large store they do not have a lot of toys but do have a lot of houseware items. If you are going specifically for clothing expect to be there a long time. I would say their selection of clothing is both their strength and their weakness. They have a TON of clothes. However, the clothing, although divided into sections (sweaters, jeans, etc.) are arranged by color and not by size. This means you will often have to search an entire row of clothes to find the right size, especially if you need a 'sweater' and not a 'red sweater'. If you did need a red sweater you have about a 30% chance of finding your size in a style you like (they have some very old styles). However, some of my most favorite clothes have come from this store. There are sometimes gems in the clothing. One year I got my daughter a garbage bag sized bag of Justice and other brand name clothes. The total cost was around $30. The prices overall are good to excellent but you do exchange your time for the cost savings. In general this is one of my favorite thrift stores in the area and I have found great value and some amazing...
