A large, busy county park with a large lake, a baseball field, reservable picnic shelters with bbq grills throughout, fishing, small boat ramp, pokemon, several restrooms, parking area for Pinellas Trail, and exercise courses. A walking trail that goes completely around the lake is great for jogging. Ample parking.
This is the same park where an alligator killed a man who went into the water, June 2022. There are many more here, so dogs are not recommended.
Largo fireworks here on the 4th.
8th Ave along lake serves as a dike for Lake Taylor, spilling into Pinecrest Golf course. When water levels are low stumps are still visible from before the dam was built in the 1930s.
A boat ramp exists, but this is not a boating lake. It is too shallow, has big gators, and weeds frequently clog the lake. Fishing is better from the deep end along the 8th ave bank or from the bridge. Still could be a fun day with a jon boat.
This lake is the last lake in a string of lakes and canals running up from the south near Seminole High School called the McKay Creek basin. It's fed from Ridgecrest lake to the north. Ridgecrest is fed from Walsingham Reservoir. Walsingham is fed from the sinkhole fed pond in front of Seminole Vocational Ed school. (In the 1960s a drainage ditch was extended south. Some maps label this as McKay creek also.)
Also popular for Pokemon Go. 7 gyms and...
Read moreI love this park, and I live right behind it, so that is why it's so hard to see the deteriorating conditions. Upkeep is not like it used to be, and conditions are not all together safe from wild animals that naturally live here. The waters edge is not mowed anymore, so alligators can be lying in wait for your little dog; please be extra careful near the water. They have not bush hogged the interior, so many coyotes live in the park. Spanish moss has taken over many of the trees, and alot of ducks and water fowl do not return anymore. The homeless camp in the back corner will be a never ending issue. I hope to see more attention being brought back, because this can be a beautiful park and has so many wonderful assets if maintained better. Great for picnics, sunsets, disc golf, walkers, joggers, kids, parties.....it's an all-round great atmosphere and super...
