I lived in Garcia for all of 3 months at the most & then got out as quickly as I could. My stay at campus housing was doomed from the start, there is no roommate matching service-they just pair you with whoever. I had a dirty, disrespectful roommate who made no attempt to connect with me whatsoever, & then stopped talking to me all together after drunk screaming at me at around 4 AM. I approached my resident assistant with complaints but no action was taken, & I was told to “show my roommate a little Jesus”, which is not really a valid solution for uncleanliness. After moving back home, I realized NMSU was not the college for me, & I believe this housing issue plays a large part of me leaving, which is unfortunate. Terminating my contract was the most difficult thing as the staff was unhelpful & rude at times; I probably went back & forth to the Housing office about 7 times before finally terminating the contract, which is ridiculous & unnecessary. Something needs to change here since they added the rule that all first year students coming out of district must live on campus, this left a terrible impression of New Mexico...
Read moreDan Foley, the Chamisa Village Resident Director, is possibly one of the worst employees I've ever had the displeasure of working with. There has been constant electrical issues in my apartment (forcing me to spend several weeks in winter with my room getting into the 50s some nights) because he refused to listen to complaints or act until I brought in a third party. The bug issue with my apartment wasn't even dealt with until I got hives because he told us several times that the housing department does not deal with pest control (They do in fact gas). Even then they only paid for the doctor's appointment and pest control showed up TWO MONTHS later. He is full of attitude, often leaves without leaving adequate instructions for the RAs, will constantly redirect a resident to another department despite the issue being HIS department. He should not work there, and I no longer want to live on campus because I know now with certainty that he does not care about this housing or...
Read moreThe people that work here are rude, non-punctual, and don't care about the students. They make the housing contracts year long so that they can trap you in residential charges. The employees all the way from department to individual dorm offices don't communicate with each other. They claim to always be busy, but the offices are ghost town. The amount they charge for dorms are unrealistic a room/closet SHARED with one other person and a bathroom SHARED with three other people is roughly $480 a month. And these are some of the cheapest dorms. It is so much cheaper to just live off campus, you could save hundreds. But you could save thousands, not even enrolling. Go to...
