Starved Rock - A Great Hiking Spot Near Chicago
Anthony SaenzAnthony Saenz
Words cannot even begin to explain how grateful I am right now! Yesterday we went for a hike down the wildcat canyon and I left my sunglasses behind on accident. These weren't just any sunglasses. They are 10+year old sunglasses I was issued in the army and wore them through my deployment to Afghanistan. I was completely devastated last night when I realized I left them down in the canyon. This morning I was the first car in the lot waiting for the light to break so I could hit the trail as fast as I could to see if they were there still. I ran that trail as fast as I possibly could and made my way down to the bottom of the canyon. I went straight to the rock we took pictures at where I knew I left them. They weren't there and my heart instantly sank and got so sad. I turned to the right to look up at the sky in frustration and as dropped my head in disappointment I was blown away with what I saw. Somebody had found them and placed them on a higher rock close to where I left them!!!!! I couldn't believe my eyes! There they were sitting on top of a rock at the bottom of the canyon waiting for me to return! To the kind soul who found my glasses yesterday and decided to leave then down there for me to find I greatly appreciate you and your actions.

This was one of the best part of our Starved Rock visits. There are so many ways to view the Canyon. We were here in June and it was a little rainy but I think it kept a lot of the people away. We also hit this as one of the first locations on our visit. We also brought water shoes for the kids to play in the water which was a bad idea. The stones at the bottom of the pool are slightly sharp.

Either way we had a good time and the kids...

Amazing place to walk, as this canyon is a part of the starved rock state park ! I’ve seen most of the canyons there, pretty long walk ! I believe I was about 2 miles into the walk when I got to the end canyon, later looked at a map and there was a whole other side I never got to! Easily walked 6 miles that day ! Wildcat canyon is awesome :) last time I was there we got tons and tons of rain so the water...
