I have been buying haylage in a bag from Cal Ranch Layton for 5 months now. Once a month on Wednesday I roll in, tell the woman at the register I need three bags, pay for it, and then someone from the yard brings it out to my car. Super simple. I have been very pleased with this Cal Ranch. Then I made the mistake of going in on a Saturday afternoon. My cashier, Brooke, was upset because she didn't recognize the name of the product and didn't seem to want to have to find it. I asked if she could call the yard and see if they knew where it was. She called out to the guy in the yard, Tyson, and he mocked her pronunciation of the product (she said it the way I said it), then told her they had it. She finally was able to find it in the book with the Sku codes they keep up front. I asked if someone could help me load it, and she told me no, I would have to go out in the yard and find it myself, because Tyson was on lunch. I wasn't even aware that customers were allowed in the Cal Ranch yard. I couldn't find it anywhere, most of the stock is sealed on pallets with tarps and or clear plastic. Someone else from inside finally walked out to see if I needed help. When I told him what Brooke said to me, he said, I highly doubt she actually said that. Then he proceeded to tell me he didn't know where the product was, he had never seen it before, and tried to convince me that maybe I wanted some chopped straw in a bag from their bedding section (I did not want that). Finally he took me back in the store and we found what I had already paid for in the back. He said, Oh, that was what you wanted, like I hadn't described it accurately (I had shown him the receipt with the name of the product) and then made me carry it out to my car by myself. I don't know what went wrong today, but I have never been treated this rudely at any Cal Ranch, IFA or Tractor Supply. It took me 30 minutes to get the feed I had already purchased. I definitely wouldn't recommend coming to this store when they are busy, or if you aren't capable of carrying at least 50 lbs of feed...
Read moreVery disappointed that none of the staff were wearing a mask. It's not that they had it under their noses or their chins. They didn't even have them at all. The store had the proper signage required by the State on the front door saying that masks are required for staff and customers, but it was obvious that the word came down from management that no one needs to wear a mask. I'm very glad the Covid-19 situation has improved in the community, but we're not out of the woods yet. I feel this shows a complete lack of care of and disrespect to the community as a whole. I left and won't be returning there anytime soon.
From the Utah Department of Health Business Manual:
Face masks COVID-19 spreads mainly from person to person through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs, sneezes, or talks. COVID-19 can be spread by people who do not have symptoms and do not know that they are sick. It is important for everyone to wear a face mask when they are around people they do not live with. Face masks provide an extra layer to help prevent the respiratory droplets from traveling in the air and onto other people. • Employees should wear a face mask while at work. • Ask customers to wear a face mask to protect employees. • You need to practice physical distancing even if you wear a face mask. • All visitors and non-regular staff should wear...
Read moreNearly every time I go in there I struggle to find anyone that knows what there talking about. This is the last phone call conversation I had with them that is very indicative of nearly all my experiences there: Me: do you guys carry any tetracycline? Her: I'm not sure ... (pause for about 10 seconds thinking she had a follow up comment) Me: Well... can you find out? Her: ummmm... yeah just one second. ...(wait for about 5 minutes while she goes to find out). Her: are you there? Yeah we don't carry that. (Another 10 second pause expecting some other kind of help it redirection)... Me: do you know if you carry any antibiotics safe for rabbits? Her: yeah I'm not sure. You'll have to come in and look at our selection.
It was obvious by now that she wasn't really interested in helping me out... so I went to Dallas Green. They are awesome there! Lady there called a personal friend to help me with answers to my questions! It's 30 minute round trip drive vs cal ranch's walking distance from my house , but we'll worth the trip!
The only value that cal ranch has is an employee named Julie. She is excellent and so incredibly helpful, invested, friendly and knowledgeable (especially about chickens). She is the only reason I could muster a 2 star rating....
