Cloud City Modern Mead — Attraction in Leadville

Cool spot hidden in mountains of Leadville Colorado. It’s a small meadery with just a few fermenters at the back of a garage style tap room. It’s always a fun surprise to find mead on tap anywhere. But it’s not just traditional fermented honey here. Like the name suggests, this is modern mead, exploring a range of different ingredients and flavors. I loved the spiced cyser, and brought a bottle home with me to save for the fall. The dry traditional really highlighted the nuanced flavors of the honey. Best of all, the meadmaker himself was there and eager to talk about what he’s doing! It’s a very young, small business with plenty of runway to grow! We saw a post on Facebook to stop in and mention we were going to Billy Strings to receive a free pour. Never heard of this place and they had only been open for a week. It’s a small, really nice place. The owners Mom was pouring our drinks and was very nice, and knowledgeable about the selection they had.
