My six year art/architecture project, the Cottage, was ready for kitchen countertops. Cindy and I are driving on New Circle Road and I see a billboard just past Richmond Road....COUNTER CULTURE...“Great name” I said.
Owner, GJ Gerard...”Looks like a millennial rock star, I probably can’t afford them.” I sighed.
I got the phone number and called. Leslie answered the phone. The Sales Manager also coordinates by talking directly with the customers. What a novel idea. It felt like I was talking with my favorite niece.
I drove to visit before I made a commitment and met GJ, Corey, and Leslie. Did you know that all granites are not the same quality depending on which part of the world they come from? I did not know that but GJ made sure that I made a well informed decision.
One of my mottos is to do it right the first time because you can’t afford to do it twice and wouldn’t.
GJ drove to my somewhat remote location and instantly got my vision. It wasn’t like I was, once again, trying to convince someone of the finished beauty I held in my mind.
Corey came to create the template with great precision. I was extremely impressed. “Someone more precise than me...” I thought maybe I was slipping. The corner of my countertop wraps completely around a large cedar tree which is floor to ceiling. Corey smiled and stared at it a while like a doctor looking at an MRI. He figured out where the puzzle pieces needed to be cut and the sequence of installing them.
After committing to the granite material, leather textured, I was happy to not hear there wasn’t a long wait for installation.
The install crew was awesome. Raziel and Adrian wore weightlifting belts. They needed them too. Both men were extremely conscientious and not rushing. You could tell by their craftsmanship and smiles that my job was their most important thing of the day. I’m sure every CC customer feels the same.
It is a true pleasure to recommend this group of men and women, COUNTER CULTURE. They are rock stars. I was right about everything except that I actually could afford their excellent work ethic.
Thanks for you and your team GJ.
Sincerely, Stephen...
Read moreI NEVER write reviews of vendors although there are many that I work with and are great. But I have to write one for Counter Culture because of their unbelievable customer service. I went into replacing kitchen and bar area countertops with NO knowledge of what I was doing. There were multiple start/stops because I reached out to people that expected me to know what I was doing and either blew me off or tried to take advantage of me. I live in eastern KY but was in Lexington at a hardware store and I asked them who they would recommend and they said Counter Culture just down the block. It was a beautiful day and figured I'd walk down and see what they thought.
Again, I had no idea what I was doing or what I wanted. They were so patience, would talk to me whenever I went in, and waited for me to finally figure out what I wanted and worked with me to find what I needed. I had multiple issues, 1) my family home that I inherited that many people had say in, 2) custom made solid cherry cabinets that needed to be accented but not overwhelmed, 3) 1980 construction but 2020 needs, and 4) a demanding customer.
Casey's patience in answering questions seriously over 8 months, Cory's patience with my endless questions related to what works, and GJ's patience with my wanting something different but not obvious. Their dedication, experience, and thoughtfulness ended up with my having the most absolutely beautiful home. I had my "opening house" and the rave reviews supported my absolute love of what I ended up with.
Plus, I wanted something unique with a stainless steel backsplash that no one would discuss with me. They said not problem. But apparently there was a problem I never saw. Corey didn't like what they got, he took it upon himself to fix it but was concerned once he did what he could do that it wasn't acceptable. BUT when it was brought to me, even my OCD/picky personality couldn't find a flaw in what was installed.
Again, I never do reviews, but I offered numerous times to be in their advertisements as to the absolute quality of their work and they said, just write a Google review. Well, here it is. If I could ever recommend a...
Read moreI want to preface this by saying that I truly don’t write reviews often, but my experience with counter culture has warranted it. Working with GJ and the team at CC was wonderful from the very start. I have been slowly remodeling my home by myself for the last two years, wand when it finally came time to do the kitchen I knew I wanted to use soapstone for the countertops. Doing some prior research I knew this material wasn’t cheap and I was nervous, because I wasn’t sure my price range would afford me the type of product I was looking for. And boy was I right! After getting a few quotes that made the blood rush from my face, I went to Counter Culture. You know when you just get a great vibe from someone right off the bat? This is what talking to the owner, GJ is like.
GJ really understood my wants and needs and went out of his way to source and install the most stunning soapstone counters I have ever seen. I am aware that Counter Culture (like many stone fabrication companies) does lots of big ticket jobs, but I think it’s important for anyone working in a (let’s say lower tax bracket) to know that these people don’t forget about the little guys. In fact, I feel it may be the opposite. GJ was fully transparent and gave me the best possible price on the material type of I was looking for without sacrificing my vision.
If you are looking for beautiful quality stone, and people that know what they are doing from start to finish, you have found your place. GJ is an honest, empathetic, experienced person with excellent taste. There is absolutely no doubt he would make any project you have a stellar experience. I would recommend his business to everyone I know. Thank you guys so much much. I...
