I ordered lunch on the website a few minutes after they opened, on a Tuesday. I ordered the Blue Door Special for $26, which included 4 meats and 2 sides. I picked brisket(+$1.50 adder), pulled pork, 4 ribs(+$2.50 adder), and a sausage link. Sides picked were greens and potato salad.
I showed up a few minutes early, 5 actually. I checked a bag on the counter and it wasn't mine. The cashier asked if that was mine, I said and he asked the order name. I provided it and he delayed it to a member of the kitchen staff. That person snapped back that I was early and that it would be ready when the online order said it would be. I presented no issue to that not being my order on the counter nor did I query when my order would be ready.
I carried my order outside to eat with my wife once it was ready.
Brisket- Overcooked and dry. Fat completely rendered out of the point. No smoke flavor, not enough salt. Obviously had been held way too long.
Ribs- Ribs should be on the smoker at 0530, ready for lunch service. These were barely reheated, completely dried out, and no bark. Leftovers from a previous day's service.
Sausage- Sausage is a fine grind and cured sausage. Smoke is again lacking, but it was flavorful and the casing had a nice snap.
Pulled pork- This was quite delicious. There was a little dusting of some seasoning on the pile that was a bit sweet. While I dislike sweet rubs, it was light enough to not be an issue. The pork was pulled just right, had plenty of bark/exterior pieces mixed in, and wasn't bathed in sauce to keep it moist. I prefer a drier pulled pork, so it was right up my alley. The vinegar/tangy sauce was absolutely amazing when paired together.
Greens- Cooked well. These are sugared/sweet, rather than your typical greens that are smokey/salty/vinegar.
Potato salad- Excellent! Potato cooked perfectly, well seasoned. This is a sour cream base rather than mayonnaise base.
Tangy Sauce- A thin vinegar slop sauce. Delicious, nice black pepper and vinegar flavor.
Spicy Sauce- A thicker sauce but still on the thin side. Mustard based perhaps? I feel like I got a hint of some whisky in this as well. Also a...
Read moreFirst time ever having Blue Door Smokehouse today. I've been a pitmaster in Lexington for several years now but I've never had the opportunity to try this place out. I was picking up a catering order for my boss and I went ahead and grabbed me a plate for myself for lunch. I had a brisket sandwich (flat end, lean) and for my sides I decided to give the vinegar slaw and potato salad a try! the brisket was EXCELLENT! great smoke ring, perfect pull and the bark was flavored wonderfully and evenly with their rub. Brisket is hands down one of the hardest meats to cook in BBQ. and these guys did a wonderful job! the potato salad had red potatoes which were cooked perfectly. it had a lot of texture (personally am a fan of). the sauce was a good balance of sweet creamy with a nice consistency to the thickness. hints of dill were a lovely surprise. The vinegar slaw was really good as well. Had a good balance of sweet and tart. not an overbearing vinegar taste. I couldn't finish it however because the serving sizes were plenty. I did save it for later. I would almost consider it a good side to end with because of its sweetness, its giving for any sweet tooth you may have after your meal. I tried the sweet and the spicy sauce. I wasn't a big fan of the sauces. They were still very good, I just prefer thicker sauces myself. The spicy was my favorite of the two. Presentation was nice, onions and pickles for a garnishment. The ONLY issue (which wasn't a big deal) was my bun was quiet soggy from the pickle juice. I didn't mind though. Overall I would give Blue Door an 8.5 out of 10 and venture to say this is the best BBQ place in town! HIGHLY RECOMMEND Great job guys! service was 10/10 fast, efficient and very friendly! the guys were busy but they were still very attentive to all the customers needs! Looking forward to eating here again! well done! p.s. I was really impressed with the price of the meal....

I happened to be at Blue Door Smokehouse as a non patron. I was there for less than a minute but it smelled so good I walked out craving it. I work for a delivery company and commented as I walked outside to a couple how amazing it smelled inside. I delivered my next package and amazingly I was prompted to take a lunch break and I still had this bbq in mind.
My work lunch is a strict 30 mins. I was concerned going back would eat up most of my time. From ordering to curbside delivery was less than 5 mins. This is a perfect place for someone with a short lunch break but that wants something amazing.
I had a brisket plate with 2 sides. The potato salad was amazingly creamy and wonderful. The beans were great. The brisket was amazingly on point.
The brisket slices I was served were more than on point. The bark was amazing, the cuts not fatty and was delicious. I didn't finish my lunch. I had beans and brisket left over. I feel like someone cared about the brisket; that they carefully cut and trimmed the fat to make it perfect.
What I found out later truly amazed me. The weekday hours are until 3pm or "until we run out". Combined with the fat content of the brisket I had it is someone who cares and is true to their craft.
I couldn't reccomend Blue Door Smokehouse enough. This is truly a piece of the most excellent Texas BBQ right here in Lexington.
Thank you Blue Door Smokehouse for the spectacular things you are doing here in Lexington. Bringing amazing things to us with such care about how you do it. This review is overdue. Thank you!
Oh! And to add these people are doing it right. No more than 3 people inside to order all must be masked. And they bring the orders out...
