My initial impression of Legendary games. First it looks to be a former jewelry, or china shop or something. The front end is hardwood floors and well lit. The back end looks like every stockroom of every retail store ever got cleaned out and someone put some tables in it. The lady working the counter was friendly, and seemed genuinely nice. They host a very active event schedule as evidenced by their FB page. They also have the latest start time for an FNM draft I've ever seen, at the 10pm'ish range, more on that in a bit. The prices were the highest I've encountered in the Lexington/Richmond/Winchester area. The prize support was great if you were in the top 4, non-existent if you were below that. The crowd was comprised of a mix of what I've heard referred to as elitist a-holes and a few newbies. The constructed tournament ran into turns every single round, due to some grindy formatted decks, so draft didn't start until a bit late. Once signups went around for draft, about 14 players elected to stay, or had just shown up. The signs were that several players were rare/money/uncommon drafting, and the second the draft was over 4 of them dropped. By the end of the third round there were like 6 players left. The shop itself is next door to breakout games, and randomly through the night you hear loud noises and the sounds of terrified screaming. This is normal. Some people might find it distracting, I just kind of giggled and called it ambient sound. The bathroom is clean, and right up front in the store. The selection was interesting, I saw D&D, MTG, board games galore, and even some war-hammer at a markup (not their fault games workshop just sucks). Munchkin, exploding kittens and Cards against humanity were proudly displayed. The shop was still kind of new so I was under the impression they were still looking to fill shelves with nerd-gasm inspiring stuff. When asked about the wifi, I was basically told to sign up for a trial of the local internet provider, time warner cable. If you've read any of my other reviews, wifi is akin to breathing, and being told that the shop that I'm going to spend 4-5 hours at a time (and $700-1000 annually in) is too cheap to allow share their wifi is like a slap in the face. The shop had drinks, although I can't remember if the price was reasonable, they were a mix of canned and twist top, so I could grab a drink and not worry about me spilling, but others.... I've not been back since the first experience. Given a choice in the local area, this is the last shop that I would recommend, unless I'm talking to a super competitive elitist player, then I'd send them...
Read moreOn my first visit to the store, i noticed a pokemon bubble gum machine for .50 for a chance at rare, GX, EX or foil cards. Being the first time seeing one, my son and i each bought a card. I was surprised to see on was a base card not in mint condition. Excited for the chance to possibly get another vintage card, we rummaged our truck and bought about 10 more. Sure enough, fossil, jungle, base and base 2 cards were pulled. My sons went home and gathered all their change to go back and buy more. Spending over $70 of their money. Once they got home, we checked the cards for authenticity. They were ALL FAKE. I contacted the business via fb messenger, and shortly after recieved a reply stating that i could bring back the cards for a full refund. I went back in and spoke to Anthony who claimed to be one of the owners. He made it seem like they were real cards, when in fact they were fake. He pulled other fake cards to try and verify. He offered to pay me the money just for the cards that i "believed" were fake but not the others, even though the only reason any money was put in the machine, was for a chance for the FAKE vintage cards. He wasn't interested in how i knew they were fake. He asked me to leave and then blocked me on facebook so i could not leave a complaint. I asked to speak to another owner and was denied. I will be making a claim with the BBB and networking to anyone and everyone that this place fleeces its customers. The way that Anthony was acting, made me think he knew the fake ones were in there. Appalled by the unprofessionalism and contempt for their customers. Shame Upon posting, immediately blocked on Facebook so i couldn't post on their page. Very shady. Does not want to face...
Read moreTLDR: Horrible store, much better options around. Hands down the worst experience I've ever had with a Magic shop. The one thing that I can say is nice about the store is it is extremely organized. From there it is all downhill. If you are looking for any old cards they have plenty and are impressively sorted based on set, rarity, and color. They are most likely able to maintain such an impressive level of organization due to their lack of customers. No players in sight for card games or tabletop RPGs that would be found in a typical store. My first experience with this store really came to a head after I had decided that I did not want some of the cards I had selected after seeing the price. I, like many others, am on a budget and as a college student, I try to limit my spending on hobbies. Anyways, after seeing the total I asked to just get a portion of the cards and was informed by the worker who I can assume to be the owner that they "did not like it when people make them work and then don't buy everything they've asked for." Keep in mind here that I was still trying to purchase some of the cards just not ALL of the cards after the final total (which was undersold while everything was in the process of being counted up) had been established. After reaffirming that I was only interested in purchasing some of the cards I was told to "not buy cards here again," which is kind of misleading because I wasn't even allowed to purchase the cards which I did want. Let me restate how this was my FIRST EVER time in this shop and after asking to purchase some cards I had picked out and not some others I was effectively asked to leave and not return. 1/10 Would never consider...
