If your comparing this small town cinema to the big cinaplexes in much larger communities, you will be disappointed. This theater is located on a Main Street in a small downtown historic district. There is no neon, no fancy pretzel selection, no huge IMAX screen. What there are, are three comfortable, clean theaters; one large one downstairs for bigger seatings, and two, cozy, theaters (only 70 seats each!) upstairs. I prefer the upstairs ones, since it feels more like a private screening room. What you will find here are bright, black and white checkered subway tile bathrooms, freshly painted spaces, comfortable chairs with lifting armrests (for cuddling if you want), and reasonable prices. No, like other reviews mention, there is no parking, because none of the downtown businesses have parking lots. It's on the street parking, or a couple of parking lots less than a block away. I cannot address the handicap accessibility, but there are definitely stairs to the upper levels. I can't say whether there is an elevator, and the rest rooms are also located upstairs. All in all, a very lovely little old...
Read moreThis is the only movie theater in Rockbridge County, and I certainly appreciate that we at least have this one. It was renovated a few years ago, and the seating is very comfortable.
But, the place is not ADA compliant. It has 3 theaters, 1 large one on the 1st floor and 2 small ones on the 2nd floor. There are stairs to the 2nd floor but no elevator. The stairs are steep and curvy and very precarious.
Once in the theater, there are more steps -- steps going down into the movie and then steps going up to the seats. The steps aren't well lit (or lit at all).
The problem is compounded by the fact that the 1st floor screen usually shows the most popular movies that appeal to kids, teens, and young people. Movies that appeal to older people and seniors are shown on the 2nd floor.
This is extremely dangerous. Why does the theatre get to operate in a non-ADA...
Read moreI've been enjoying the RC theater for years. I enjoyed the renovated seating. Lots more room, chairs recline - very comfortable and clean. Sound quality is great- comparable to higher quality theaters. What was not so enjoyable: 1. Not a huge big deal but the "previews" had no visual, only audio. The actual movie played great. 2. The stair lighting seemed very blinding during the movie in the back row. Piercing blue lighting should be dimmed a tad. Had the guests next to the isle not had their chairs reclined the blue light would have been unbearable. 3. Neither sink worked in the women's bathroom nor hand sanitizer provided. 4. $4.50 for a bottle of water? Really? Other than those listed the experience was good and I'd definitely return to support my home town. It's nice to be at a decent quality theater in less than 10...
