I wanted to like this company but alas, it has been impossible so far. We purchased two sofas back in early to mid September. We brought them home and within one week one of them had already broken. We called them and they sent a repairman out within a few days. He looked at it and saw a part that needed replacing, then said he'd order the part and be back within about two weeks to complete the repair. Within a couple more weeks the other side of the broken sofa had also failed in the same exact fashion. We called to report the second breakdown, they said they'd send someone out to check it out again. No one ever came.
Several weeks passed--well over a month, probably about three times as long as we were told it would take for the part to arrive. We were told that the part had been ordered and it hadn't come in yet. No further explanation or promise to check with the supplier. Certainly no indication that they would inform us as to when to expect the sofa to be repaired.
I called again two or three weeks ago--mid to late November, shortly before Thanksgiving. By that time it had been over two months since we purchased the sofas. I expressed some frustration at both the delay and at the complete lack of information on what to expect and when. I was referred to the manager, a woman whose name escapes me at the moment. She brushed my concerns aside and simply said, repeatedly, "the part has been ordered." No further information, no sympathy at our frustration. In fact, she seemed frustrated that I was calling to follow up on the defective furniture we were sold.
At this point I just want to return the sofas and never shop at this store again. I would say the prices were decent, but a bargain for defective furniture and very poor customer service is no bargain.
Update--I recently received a phone call from the store manager, who was much more understanding and forthcoming with information this time. Not only did she explain the situation much better, she arranged to have a completely new couch to be delivered, which happened two days ago. They took the broken one away. Read moreThe store was clean and has beautiful but OVERPRICED furniture. Do research because the way Schewels does business could cost you more money and less headaches. The day we ordered our furniture was uneventful, the next day is when the headache began. We were not told that part of the set was not in stock the day we came in, upon finding that out the next day we still went ahead with the purchase a little irritated but still willing. Financing we were asked to put down money (which we were not informed about on day 1), again, frustrated but continued. After signing the contracts we were informed it would be 3 weeks to get the set, getting more frustrated e agreed. If I had not wanted the numerous recliners in the set I would have walked away after being asked to make a first payment BEFORE the furniture was even going to be delivered. Absolutely ridiculous to ask me to pay for something I have not even seen/inspected. I was told to call on October 11, 2018 ( delivery day) to call that morning at 10:30am to find out approximately when my set would be delivered. The problem there is the warehouse guys don't even get a truck in until noon. Which means the truck does not even leave the store until after 1pm or after. Office people need to give out correct information on the stores schedule instead of giving out incorrect info. After the above mess that was just a bit to unprofessional for me.
Our local Schewels is a nice store. Friendly, clean, good selection for its size. The only reason for the 4 star is because we just recently purchased a refrigerator from them. We had to take the floor model due to low inventory in the warehouse and there was no guarantee the two remaining would be available. I asked if they had a box for delivery purposes and was told yes. My husband checked out and when told his total he questioned if it included delivery and the 5 year warranty because it did not add up. He was told yes and given the warranty paperwork, etc... We were given discounts so he didn't think anymore about it. When it was delivered it was not wrapped nor in its box and had been scratched and dented. Not terrible but I notice it and was disappointed. We called and they said they would give us a 50 dollar credit since we were given other discounts at time of purchase. Two days later they called my husband and said they had not included the warranty when he paid and asked him to pay over the phone. He did of course but we both felt it was not handled well at all.
