For those who read my reviews you know that I have a passion to locate and report on odd little museums. Well this sure qualifies it's not large but it is comprehensive about the history of skates and skating. Imagine being able two sea skates from 1814. Well I didn't even know they were skating in 1814 and today that's over 200 years old. wow! now the rest of the museum has various skates, over time, motorized skates, four wheel skates, inline skates, and skates that defy description as people just wanted to have a good time and go skating. I would think you needed skating because not everybody had ice year-round to do ice skating. But what do I know! Anyway, there skate competitions around the country, there were the days of the roller rinks, and all the wonderful things of the past, there were these designs that increase safety and speed there's just a whole lot to see here, if you stop and read, and a great calliope box that you need quarters for. So bring some quarters and come and enjoy the skating Museum. I thought it...

We went back and forth through Lincoln several times, always with the intent to stop at the museum! So glad we finally did! It's a smaller museum but absolutely packed with the history of roller skating from the earliest skates of the 1800's to the modern skates of the roller skating resurgence! We learned about the evolution of roller skates, the fads of roller skating and the passion of those who compete on roller skates. Dancing, speed skating, sports and recreation, roller skates are a part of history and definitely here to stay! Visiting the museum is free so be sure to make a donation in the bin provided to keep this small bit of history open...

In town for a visit. Never came to see this place when we lived here but I made sure to visit this time. Very cool place! I love the history and the displays! I play roller derby with Circle City Roller Derby out of Indianapolis, IN. Was very surprised to see a advertisement card for Derby Lite that used to be offered ( I have the same magnet on my fridge at home!) and a jacket pin from Naptown Roller Derby also out of Indy. When I get home, I'll send something of ours for the roller derby display!

Thanks for a great...

Seriously, how many of you have been to a roller skating museum? I thought so. The museum is tucked away in the USA Roller Sports building and is essentially self-guided. It's free and it's actually pretty interesting. Plan for about 30 minutes. Small note: Parking is in the back of the building. GPS will take you to the front, where there is no parking.
