For starters, I'm going to be honest in all aspects. For the record, there isn't a reason why I should exaggerate anything I'm posting, I'm not here to be vindictive or because I dislike anyone.
I've been living in this complex well over 11 years now and I really would like to stay, (for my kids sake) but unfortunately paying over $1700 a month for this hole in the wall isn't worth it, just my opinion!
When I moved here the appearance of the complex was a hot mess. Within the past year and a half there has been a change in ownership and things might "LOOK" better in appearance but it depends on where you live in the complex. Yes, some units have been updated with new siding and landscaping but that's just a mask over the mess that it still is. When I moved in and I had a problem, the guys would come and resolve it as quick as they can. As for now with the new owners, things are much worse than before. I have been waiting on them to paint my apartment for about a year now and it still hasn't been done. The floors are buckling, I bought it to their attention but still nothing has been done. My son was sitting on a chair in his bedroom playing video games and one of the legs went through the floor, it turned out to be there was a termite problem. They changed HALF the floor but never came back to finish the work they started. Now we have to pay for our own heat, which isn't bad because the previous heating system was not only to HOT but would bang/knock all night long. Before putting in the new "central air" units, they should've done one of many things you can do to reduce the energy bill like sealing and repairing drafty areas but they didn't! All they (owners) thought about was rushing to get it installed before the winter so they didn't have to pay for the heat. There are so many cold drafts coming from EVERYWHERE, all the windows, the front door, the floors and NOW through the new oversized holes that they made to put the vents in for the air ducts. My first utility bill came in and it was $175.00 for this little 2 bedroom apartment. I keep it set at 71 degrees and my family still needs to wear sweat pants and hoodies to keep warm. They hired a company to come in to conserve water and now their isn't any water pressure, it literally takes triple the time to shower and wash dishes. NOW there is a problem with hot water. For some reason if you take a shower during the hours of 6-8am and 5-8pm there is little to none!! Management knows about this but nothing is done. Little do they know, I know what the problem is because I know someone from the company they hired to install it. The new owners took out the previous big hot water heaters and put in smaller ones, again trying to save money. One last thing I'd like to mention, although I can keep going on, is this complex has a big problem with racoons, stray cats and pests. Yup oversized roaches, spiders and centipedes... kindly ask me any questions you have. Like I said, I've been here for 11 years and know a lot about the complex.. oh, I did want to mention that the area is good and safe at all...
Read morePros: I lived at Gardens at Westmont for about three years, and overall, it’s a nice community. It’s a great choice if you’re renting your first apartment, or if you’re a single person or couple. The pricing is fair compared to most rentals in Bergen County, which makes it more affordable than many nearby options.
The landscaping is always well maintained, and the property includes a small park for kids and a dog park for pet owners. Pest control is available whenever you need it, which I appreciated since I don’t do well with bugs. The renovated buildings feature updated counters, cabinets, and flooring, which gives the apartments a more modern feel.
The staff are friendly, and maintenance is prompt and reliable. There’s also a laundry room on-site, which is convenient. The neighborhood feels safe, and it’s a nice area for walks, whether for exercise or just to enjoy some fresh air.
During Halloween they have contest & give out treats, my daughter really enjoyed that.
Rent does increase $50 a year but that is much less than most places, but it still adds up.
They’re also pet-friendly, which is a huge plus. However, some residents don’t clean up after their dogs, which can be frustrating. It would be great if management invested in a dog DNA program to hold pet owners accountable.
Cons: The apartments run a bit small for the price, though they are still cheaper than luxury rentals in Bergen County.
One of the biggest issues is moisture. Despite using a dehumidifier, fans, and opening windows, the humidity builds up and leads to mold in the bathroom and around windows. I think it’s related to the age of the buildings and older window panes. Once the mold starts, it’s very difficult to fully get rid of.
Noise was the biggest downside. You can hear nearly everything from neighbors above—or even from units not directly overhead—including talking, walking, kids, pets, and more. Some type of noise-absorbing insulation would make a big difference.
Another problem is with bugs. The ceiling light fixtures aren’t well sealed, so different pest often end up trapped inside. I also dealt with spiders coming through the bathroom exhaust fan, sometimes dropping right into the shower, which was not pleasant. They do however have pest control that comes whenever you request which is nice. We had a mouse issue when we first moved in but that was only because of a small opening behind the dishwasher that needed to be sealed. Pest control came right away and tended to the issue.
Overall: Gardens at Westmont is a nice place to live if you’re on a budget, or if you’re a single person or couple. I’m grateful for my time there, but I do hope management considers addressing the issues with moisture, noise, and pests. With a few improvements, the complex really has the potential to be a great...
Read moreI am extremely disgusted and giving even one star to this place is a lot in my opinion. I have been living here for 2 1/2 years and I’ve never had an issue with anyone from the management office but after the way I was treated earlier today, Friday, November 17 I have never been more upset in my life, there is new management and NEW sales people that have been contracted and they do not know how to talk to, or even treat the tenants, especially people that have been here long enough before they were even brought to the office Nobody should have to accept that and be spoken to in such a way and with an attitude. I am very upset and I want to make this clear Yes, the living situation and the community is great but it doesn’t make it great anymore when the management office has salespeople that are so nasty and rude and disrespectful and have no respect when speaking to their tenants and this is actually something that happened to me today this afternoon when I was at the office and simply just went to ask a question I am very upset, and I’ve never been treated this way before been going through a sensitive situation and very hard and this is how I get treated. Not acceptable at all. I am doing this to prevent anyone else from experiencing the same thing that I went through today. Not taking this down And if I did won’t change what happened or this person doing this to someone else. There is no consequences at all And in case you wanted to know the worst part about all of this is that now I’m being bribed to take it down and even was told that I’m going to be receiving VIP service if I take down the review the next time that I go into the office that’s not happening I’m not taking it down Because either way it’s not going to change how I felt or how I feel and the situation that happened and this person is probably going to do it to somebody else and the actions of that person are probably going to be bad compared to what happened in my experience. It’s very sad that I was called a few days ago from another location that heard about this and like I said bribe me tried to put things in my head so I would take it down, not...
