Dirty beach, strewn with garbage left by disrespectful visitors and from LA's sewer, aka Pacific ocean. The breakwater prevents waves larger than 2 feet. Home to 100s of transients, mostly men, make sure to keep an eye out after dark. Like most of the city, the beautification and gentrification is just a facade. It's like putting lipstick on a pig. Crime us up. Do not leave a bicycle anywhere, no matter what lock you have. It will get stolen. There is a camera on the lifeguard station but the police can't be bothered to use it, or even admit the camera exists (my personal experience). The beach is 'open' until 10, but expect the bathrooms locked by 8, leaving those in need little option but use the beach. The bike path is nice, but as the light fades be prepared to encounter thieves and throngs of mentally unstable characters.
revisiting this review years later there have been a few infrastructure improvements. a very nice playground just east of the renovated snack stand is fun for all ages. the erector set like cable structures are fun to climb on. a nice touch is the soft, faux concrete under your feet. the basketball courts are surprisingly underused and i have never seen any trouble there.
a weekly staple for the past 10 years is the tuesday night long beach from circle. open to all ages, pronouns and skill level it’s always a welcome space to listen, dance or join in. starts approximately 7:30pm located at the east end of the parking lot close to the...
Read more. Zzz this is honestly one of the gym beaches that is located in LA County that still feels nice and mellow like Orange County Beach but with a little bit of a more laid back LA vibe so to speak. This Beach doesn't really have a lot of waves but it's absolutely beautiful there are oil Derek student bird and Islands off the coast that are interesting to look at and because of the low waves if you need a launch kayaks without getting wet for the most part. And you can paddle out to the different oil islands and the more boats and the Peter and other things in the area. If you paddle out near the pier there is some very interesting to see life that gathers on the pie lawns such as starfish that are about 13 of 14 in of cross and other interesting sea life. It's an absolutely wonderful Beach and one of the best ones in Long Beach a great place to go and lay back although parking is a little expensive if you plan on parking in the designated Lots but that's pretty much standard for anything in LA it seems these days the speech has a very similar feel to seal or Sunset area probably cuz it's not very far but at the same time because of the type of people that are around and the environment itself. The beaches pretty well maintained there has been a problem recently with people camping in tents but it has pretty much been...
Read moreI got there at 3p.m. , found parking close enough to the ocean and we were able to leave without a problem. The beach is very clean . We enjoyed our visit and will be coming back often. Again , parking isn't free, but it was for me and many others that day. Not sure why , I wasn't able to get a ticket the day I went to park. Many were trying to pay , but the tickets just weren't co.ing out or taking money. I'll have to call the city to find out if someone can come out and check. When ,I left I didn't see a place to deposit verification of paid parking , but there were these spikes that seemed a bit rough on my tires , so I'm going g to ask what is going on . The parking is .50 cents for half an hour. Not bad , right. The day I went there were some vendors on the beach off to the side . There were d.j's . The music was playing , but it wasn't so loud that it took away from a good time at the beach. We left at about 7p.m. and I have no idea if there is light in the parking area. I wouldn't stay so late , there were way too many people in the parking area . There were vendors and a d.j on the street and people were parking inside that beach parking area. I didn't see any fights or anything that would alarm me . I wouldn't stay late , I didn't see any police patrolling the area...
