I went into this experience so excited for my self care day before a big trip. This was my first time at Gloss and was referred by two friends who go there. My appointment was for 10am. I received a text to confirm my appointment at 9:30am that morning and I let them know I was on my way and they responded back with a heart. The disappointment started when I got there. I arrived at 10:02am. I checked in via the sign in sheet and sat down as the receptionist was on the phone. There were 2 people who came in after me (one appointment - gel mani/pedi and one walk in -gel manicure) they checked in physically with the receptionist so I walked up and let her know I had signed the check in sheet and she said “yes hard gel manicure and pedicure correct?” I said “yes that’s correct” she said have a seat and we will be with you shortly. They pulled the appointment who walked in after me first (maybe 10 minutes after waiting), no problem she may have a tech she always go to. Then they pulled the walk in about 15 minutes after we walked in. This upset me a bit but I kept a smile on my face and waited. At around 10:20am I was put into a pedicure chair and asked to wait there. The receptionist came around and told me that she was sorry for the delay but the tech was late. At 10:40 the nail tech finally arrived and started on my nails. I showed her a reference phot and asked for hard gel because I wanted them to last the two week duration of my trip. She was kind and did a decent job on the chrome French manicure and looks pretty close to the inspo photo. I was happy enough with the outcome for my 40th birthday euro trip. Overall my mani/pedi experience was fine (the pedi tech did a wonderful job on my toes). When leaving the receptionist checked me out and I gave her my card to pay. She was talking to me an a client who had just walked in so she ran my card and started checking in the client in. There was a whole ordeal where she started raising her voice to me to check my wallet again and again claiming she gave it back. I told Her I kept this card in a specific slot in my wallet and I had checked my bad and wallet 3 times, it wasn’t there and that I didn’t sign for anything or did I get a receipt back. At this point people are looking at us, she looked around her workspace again and found my card under her appointment book. And said she was sorry. I told her it was okay and I left. This in itself was a bad experience and chose to just let it go. I had noticed that evening that it looked like one of my nails wasn’t fully secure on my nail bed but I was as leaving for the airport the next day and couldn’t go back. Fast forward 3 days later, I am in Europe for my 40th birthday and nails have literally peeled off 3 days after paying for hard gel. I’m not sure what went wrong but I am livid. The asked for a hard gel manicure to last me 2 weeks and instead they got a peel off gel manicure that would have lasted longer if I’d done them at home. Super disappointed. Won’t go back and do not recommend if you’re leaving town for more than a day or two to be able to fix...
Read moreRead the other review before mine. I had the same experience. I’m so disappointed. I’ve been coming here for almost 5 years to see Karen. I don’t know what’s going on but the service quality and attitude has gone completely downhill the last few months. She is rushed and rude to me, literally passive aggressive for no reason. I’ve always been kind and still tip, but this week was the last straw.
I got regular gel nails. Karen rushed me through my appointment. She even called me “crazy” under her breath because she thought I couldn’t understand Chinese. All I was doing was flipping through colors, not even speaking.
When I got home, my nails started rippling because she didn’t dry them long enough between coats. I called in, sent in pics, and Yuni at the front desk said i could come in to fix them. I explained I didn’t want to - it takes me a long time to drive there, sit down again - and the main issue is that Karen had ground my natural nails down super thin this time. My nails hurt and they couldn’t be ground again the day after.
I asked for a credit for the next time I came in. Instead, I was told that was up to the nail tech because it would “come out of her paycheck”. Then Yuni proceeded to ask Karen on the phone. She came back and gave me a vague answer “She says you can come back in next time and talk to her about it.” “Is that.. a yes or no?” I asked. “Uhm… you can talk to her about it.”
What?? Is the nail tech the manager/owner? What kind of customer service is this??!
The MOST upsetting part to me isn’t even the bad paint job. At least that’s not permanent. When I told Yuni my nails were too thin to redo, she told me they could simply soak the gel off to avoid grinding the nail. WHAT. I took 6 MONTHS off of doing my nails this year to regrow the strength of my natural nails, because I wanted to finally switch to natural after a lifetime do gel x / acrylic. I had JUST come back after healing them, all excited to start a new chapter.
Karen knew this. I told her each time. But instead of caring about my nail health and doing it the right way, she’s been doing it the fast, easy way since I came back. Because faster = more clients = more money. My nails are so thin now I can’t even touch anything without them bending, and when I came in they were hard as steel.
It’s going to take me another 6 months now to re-heal my nails. I’m so upset. I literally have gone to Karen alone for 5 years now. I’ve been nothing but kind to her.
The change in attitude is also strangely timed with my switching to natural basic gel nails after years of doing the much more expensive Gel X.
I hope actual management sees this and...
Read moreI'm a little sad to write this as I have been going to Gloss Nails for 10 years. But it's progressively gotten worse and I was treated so poorly today, I feel like it's my due diligence to write this. I walked in and asked for a regular manicure as I'll be traveling. Carson tended to me and asked me if I wanted a gel instead. I explained to him that I was traveling and he said he had the same color I had chosen in gel. I told him that we could go ahead and do gel and that I would like the glitter-pour manicure, which I've done many, many times. He said yes. And he proceeded to give me a gel manicure with a pre-mixed glitter-like gel color. When I asked him about the pour glitter, he kept saying it was a base coat.
Finally when he realized I was upset, instead of apologizing he said "didn't you think to tell me to stop?" Whoa. No apologies or accepting responsibility! I told him it was unfair and I didn't think I had to pay. So he stopped working. He didn't finish and left my nails undone.
When I explained to the receptionist who was SO lovely, she offered me a discount and asked Henry to help finish my manicure. But Henry refused to. I know Henry from going there for many years and he's always been nice, but clearly today he stood in allegiance with his co-worker and completely ignored me. The poor receptionist came over and put oil on my nails. She didn't know what to do.
It was towards the end of the day, and it was clear they were tired, but there was no need to be so mean and unprofessional. I will miss Lisa, Betty and the other nail technicians there. But I'll be taking my business up the road to Sun Nails where there is good customer service. Gloss is not what...
