I went to the 9 hole golf course at the very back of the park. This review is about the golf course only.
This course does exactly what it was designed to do. Offer a quick taste of no frills golf. This is a par 3 course where there is no hole longer than 130 yds. More than half of the holes are 100 yds or under. The greens are very small and really challenge your accuracy. This is great practice for your short game. Once on the greens, the putting is a challenge for two reasons. The grass is more like fairway length than putting green length which makes them quite slow. Second, because of the grass length, they are a bit bumpy so getting a true, smooth roll is not the easiest thing to accomplish. One other note; several of the greens are under trees so pine needles and leaves are one more obstacle to deal with on those holes.
With all that being said, I had FUN! The attendant was courteous and the round ($10) came with a cold bottle of water! All of what I described above has made me a better golfer.
The jewel of the park is their driving range. It only has 8 stations and it resembles a large batting cage. Fully enclosed, about 2-3 stories high and about 80 yds deep. Here's what you can't beat. A bucket of about 40+ balls costs....wait for it.... $2. That's right $2!!! Close to half of the balls in the bucket are converted used name brand balls labeled as practice balls. Some were Titlist pro V1's! (Older models) but you're not hitting rock hard range balls.
All in all, the experience is a challenging change of pace that I unexpectedly enjoyed. It should be played...
Read moreThe new park after dark program at Jesse Owens park has been successful at curtailing violence in often abandoned parks in evening. Residents are taking back the public utility from criminals by enjoying the park in the evenings while taking advantage of the fair weather of the summer nights.
This free event is family friendly and people of all ages and backgrounds will enjoy themselves with good food, music, games and even exercise. Kudos to the sponsors and organizers of this ongoing event. Way to keep it positive.
I took stars away because the facilities of the park in decay and need to be updated. The bathroom is from 1940 and sanitation and cleanliness is an issue.
The quality of the events and tournaments held here could certainly improve.
The pool is hardly open to the public.
The diving and swim instructors seem to lazily hang out around the pool with each other as opposed to really teaching the kids to be good...
Read moreThey say this is a shady area but I've lived in the area for a over a year now and only been pressed 6 times coming to this park, so it's not that bad. I've noticed is that there's a lot of music video shoots and put ons that take place here so there's definitely a strong sense of community that can't be found everywhere else. Only downside is if you live in Inglewood you probably shouldn’t mention that out loud while visiting.
Many of the locals at this park wear blue masks over their face anyways so it’s definitely pandemic friendly.
Overall this is a very family friendly park as long as you're not from families. 9/10...
