I’ve taken three classes so far at LA Woodshop and each has been an amazing experience. The shop teachers/members are all incredibly talented artisans, artists, craftspeople and woodworkers and their collective combined knowledge is awe-inspiring. The teaching style is one of bringing anyone who is interested into the craft of woodworking, using safe and correct techniques that allow you to produce astonishing results even as a novice. The shop is massive and stocked with fine hand tools, large-scale industrial/pro machinery, and everything you need to bring your project to life. No previous knowledge is needed or presumed. All instructors are approachable, open and fun. I have experienced classes at other community shops and the experience compared to LA Woodshop is honestly lacking. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned in such a relatively short period of time, all thanks to the hands-on instruction that starts with the first cutting board intro class and carried through to much more challenging experiences, such as table-making and dovetail hand joinery. Come practice a craft passed down for generations and get in touch with organic materials while you’re at it. I love this place!

I highly recommend this course. What a great way to dip your toe into the wonderful world of wood working! The class was made up of people, of all walks of life, with varying degrees of experience/knowledge, but for the most part we were all newbies. The teachers were welcoming, and relaxed, with a high level of focus on safety and participants comfort with using the workshop machinery. Their direction was clear and I had good understanding of what we were doing at all times. This is very much a beginners introduction, so don't expect to walk out having learnt how to refurbish that mid century dresser you bought on FB marketplace... but you will however walk out with a good understanding of some basic concepts/skills, required for working wood and using woodshop tools, as well as a fantastic cutting board/cheese board! It really was a great little project to complete in one day and to learn the basics on. As someone who has been looking for a creative outlet, and has been entertaining working with wood for some time, I couldn't be happier with my experience and I'm now looking forward to the next class in the course progression, Table Class!

I had an AMAZING time at LA Woodshop. I decided to build a coffee table for myself and I realized that I had some of the things and experience I needed, but not all of it, so I reached out to Eric at LA Woodshop to see if they could help me out. I ended up booking a few hours of private instruction so that I could learn to joint and plane the wood I bought. Eric was great about explaining what I needed before I came in and working with me based on the specifics of my project. When I got there, we got right into the work and Eric turned out to be a fantastic instructor as well. Patient, thorough, and he made me feel welcome in a world I'm not used to being it. I learned a TON and made huge progress on my coffee table project. If you're looking to work on a specific project, to learn a new woodworking skill, or even just to try out woodworking, I'd recommend this shop. I absolutely plan to go back when my next need arises and I can't wait.

as Eric said, "safety, fun, and education," is what i love about their teaching and class environment. they are always nearby, more than happy and willing to answer questions, double check work and ensure that you know how to use a tool before letting you fly solo with it. Nate and Eric may sometimes offer different advice which I see as a good thing because you get more than one option on how to approach a task, as one may suit your needs and ability more than the other. group work often helps clarify concepts, and for the most part keeps us on the same page. the classes provide me with sufficient time to get things done at a pace i'm comfortable with and dont feel rushed.i know my style of learning is hands on and visual, so this isn't hard to get the hang of but sometimes i am not 100% on concept, and so i take my time with my work just to minimize errors. I can confidently say Eric and Nate will have your back throughout the whole time you're learning and working. I had an accident (nothing that required a visit to the hospital) and they know how to efficiently and effectively care for those types of accidents (they have a first aid kit). All in all, i love the experience and cant believe I am actually making a table! its been my childhood dream to woodwork, Im FORTUNATE that LA Woodshop is the shop that's making this dream a...

The Intro to Woodworking class was great. I learned so much relative to overall workshop safety specific to tool use, and received great hands-on training on the use of the various woodshop machines/tools. I have more confidence with the table saw, and a better understanding of it's use. I received valuable training on the milling process, which included the proper use of the jointer and thickness planer. I was especially appreciative of the guidance the instructors provided in the operation of the bandsaw, thickness planer, and drill press as I recently acquired all three tools. I left with a better understanding of the characteristers of various types of wood. I learned so much in this one day class, too much to list all of the details in this review. I highly recommend LA Woodshop for classes. Todd, Jim, and Kim were all very helpfull and informative, and very patient. Their easy demeanor put everyone at ease wherein they were able to assist those who were particalrly intimidated by the machines. If you are one of those individuals then LA Woodshop is just right for you.

I also signed up for the Practical Cabinet Making class and am very much looking forward to working with the instructors in enhancing my knowledge and skills in woodworking.
