I like coming to this park with my kids but the only thing that hasn’t made my visit a peaceful one this summer is the uncertainty of their splash pad. Sometimes it’s on sometimes it’s off. Sometimes when I have called the office they have told me it turns off by its self. I’ve been told that it turns of on Saturday, on a different day they said that the water is filtering it’s self and that’s why there’s only two fountains working. They have also said that they don’t have any control over the water system, that it has a mind of its own. This is what I don’t understand. I usually call acting like I haven’t called the other times just to see what they say. The lady in the office said that she would have to call people that don’t work in the office to come and look at it. This has been the case for about 3 weeks now and the office has not been able to call those people to fix the splash pad. This is the closest splash pad there is for me. I would go to another but gas is expensive. I would just like to go to the splash pad on the hours that they say the water is on. It would give so many moms a peace of mind. I did ask the office lady if I could speak to her supervisor and she said he would probably tell me the same thing. I’m just wondering how we can properly fix the water pipes to be able to enjoy this splash...
Read moreParents be warned: the splash pad is not functional! We went on the hottest weekend of the year hoping to cool off and the "splash pad" is just an inoperative concrete slab. Apparently there are plans for it to get working next year, but for now it's just a shadeless wasteland. The playground surfaces get scalding hot in the sun and there is scant shade. Also, no one is enforcing parking restrictions here so the parking lot is a lawless free-for-all with cars double parked, left abandoned at red curbs, stopped in the roadway; it's chaos and no one seems to be in charge. The driveway gates to the parking lot are unlocked and open during daytime hours, but the pedestrian walkways are not though, so if you (like us) have to park on the street because there's no room in the lot, you must enter the facility on foot in the middle of the road. The pedestrian walkways are gated and padlocked even when the park is "open" and there doesn't seem to be any staff or employee in charge of opening them. Lastly, no one is emptying garbage cans so there is trash all over the ground. This place is a public loss and until they can find one or two adults to actually care for the facility, you'd be better off...
Read moreI live by the LA river. 11 years and counting, but an Angelino since I was 2 years young. I've seen this river evolve from a polluted dump to the more thriving full of life habitat that it currently is (including several homeless encampments but they are decent folks down on their luck that chose the LA river for it's safety) Remember that 187 movie with Samuel Jackson? That had some scenes shot by the LA river, I truly remember it being like that, you came to the river at your own risk. Now it's full of Hipsters sharing their beer and weed with you, young families taking their kids on bike rides and a brewery providing the very alcohol shared by the nice hipster neighbours and drank by the young couples taking their kids on walks or bike rides. You see, Craft beer will class up any situation, including public drinking. Still, this is a very happening...
