This used to be the original building for the Barnes Foundation, purpose-built by Dr. Barnes and designed by Paul Cret (1876-1945) who was also the teacher of Louis Kahn (1901-1974). Cret also designed the Rodin Museum in Philadelphia. Having visited the new building of the Barnes Foundation, the floor plan was eerily familiar, including the great hall which used to house the famous Matisse "The Dance" paintings created for this space. The current occupant, the Frances M. Maguire Art Museum at Saint Joseph's University, has a number of great artworks by the likes of Christo, Josef Albers, Niki de Saint Phalle, Victor Vasarely, and others.
