Matterns complaint
Update: Matterns resolved the situation to my satisfaction
September 20
This is the first day since Aug. 1 that our basement and whole house have not smelled musty and humid even with the air conditioner on. Our house has always been pretty dry and cool.
Matterns delivered our new washer and dryer on August 2. There was a noticeable smell in the house in the next few days but really were excited about our new appliances and just thought the summer heat and humidity might be the cause. On August 5 our small grandchildren and their parents came to visit for a week. It was distressing that the bad air was coming up from the basement into where they sleep.. it felt really unhealthy for their small lungs.
We adjusted the dehumidifier and placed Damp Rid bags and got through the visit.
The smell in the house was getting worse. I thought maybe because of needing to water the grass and plants it was seeping into our basement, though it never had before.
On September 8 our basement was flooded with water that was coming from the laundry area. After eliminating every other possible source, like rain, my husband shut off the water to the laundry.
I called Matterns for help and was told the first repair appointment was Sept. 19, the following week.
On Sept. 19 the GE service person told us the drier steam connector valve had not been correctly installed, and now it was rusted (after one month).
He disconnected everything and said to tell Matterns they needed to fix it.
I called Matterns, really angry, but open to a good response. I was told I would get a call back the same day. I did not.
Now it has been two weeks since we could do laundry (with our brand new appliances)
I had to call the next day again and someone came over. The Matterns guy who did the original install was looking perplexed and said he had never seen a steam connection rust so quickly.
I explained (with gritted teeth) that I had called FOR HELP the week before and he said “well yesterday was the first I heard of it.”
Meanwhile, we have had to throw out wet area rugs, our previously decent basement is grosser, our whole house now has to dry out.
Matterns has a great reputation. Buying local instead of Home Depot is a good goal, right?
But the service we received was poor, nonchalant,
We won’t...
Read moreAfter the experience my fiancé and I have had with Matterns we can honestly say it’s been the worst experience we’ve had buying anything from anywhere, ever. We ordered a fridge for our new construction house and the delivery team scratched up our kitchen floor so badly that we had to have an entire 8 foot area ripped out and replaced. When I brought this issue to Mattern’s attention I was ignored, strung along, and ghosted multiple times because the “owner was out” and there was apparently nobody else in the entire company who deals with customer issues. I spoke to the delivery team directly and they denied their involvement, claiming the scratches were there beforehand (which is hilarious considering it was new construction and we hadn’t moved in yet). What’s more, our fridge was delivered with a dent in the freezer and I was told we would be given a credit…had to pester them for that also. Fast forward a couple weeks: the ice maker on our brand new fridge/freezer broke, and they scheduled to a GE tech to come fix it today. My fiancé stayed home today and sat around all day waiting for the tech. Welp apparently the manager at Matterns sent them to the wrong address and our service appointment was cancelled with no availability to schedule another. Absolutely horrific experience dealing with this company. I’d write more but I have to go buy ice because my brand new expensive freezer isn’t making any and it wasn’t fixed today due to Matterns’ complete...
Read moreI purchased a washer/dryer set here a few years ago. The washer broke very early for the age. The dryer was installed incorrectly and put my family at risk. Last month I went to clean my dryer vent after a repair. I vacuum it out monthly but I never had to disconnect it from the wall. I always vacuumed it from the other end and inside the machine through the lint catcher. Turns out my wall opening duct was an odd size. The Dryer exhaust tubing that Matterns installed was shoved onto a crushed dryer port, which caused the dryer opening to be decreased by half and buildup of lint the size of my cat. Thankfully we did not have a house fire. There are 2 possible scenarios that could have occured to lead to this, both of which are negligent for Matterns. 1. The install person found the oddly sized dryer port and rather than take the extra time to wiggle it on, they crushed the vent to get it done quick. Scenario 2: The install people found the crushed vent from the previous owners and rather than try to press it open or even tell us "hey your dryer vent is crushed, might want to fix that" they just shoved their tubing on top of the crushed vent and left. I am not the original owner so I can't be sure which occured. However both scenarios are irresponsible and show zero care for my families safety. Dryer fires are the most common type of house fire and can lead to deaths. I paid for a professional install. I would NEVER do business with this...
