I used the free-day pass to try the place during my gym search to do my regular exercise sections. After deciding to do the membership and being there for three weeks, I encountered one of the worst experiences I never thought I would have in YMCA, especially on this one, from which I've been welcomed by a very attentive and professional customer service representative (male). On July 28, one of the employees (male) indiscreetly opened the door of the stretch rooms and addressed me and my spouse as we were doing something wrong to keep the place a "family environment". The employee did not introduce himself, which is why the description I can give is that he has a piercing and, on that day, was wearing a neon pink color shirt. The front desk attendant provided the executive contact information, and I still have not heard from Andrea Baez whether the incident was addressed or not. My advice for all couples and married couples is that this is not the place as, based on what that unprofessional employee said, there is a rule of no 'kissing'. It is disappointing to not hear from the administration ever since I sent the e-mail (Aug 1).
Update: Andrea Baez e-mail Wed, Aug 3, 10:36 AM (1 day ago)
Quote, "Thank you for the email and the feedback regarding your interaction at the Y. I spoke to the Director you mention in your email the night of, and he was pretty shaken up by the encounter. We walk such a fine line in regard to physical touch at the facility with so many young people within our four walls. I am sorry you decided to leave the Y, and again, thank you for sharing your experience so I can work with the team on message delivery."
There are well-disciplined and educated young men and women everywhere, and the YMCA can be as well if the education and discipline are transcended by the employees themselves, rather than by those who pay membership and come at peace with no intentions of manipulating and inserting the young kids who come here to pass the time and receive educational programs to help them with their growth with inappropriate behaviors like I received from the Health Director. The response of the e-mail was found to be vague and condescending. My appreciation is for responding, not promptly, but at least receiving...

The adult locker rooms have been used less than four years but are closed and under renovation. I get it; the contractor did a poor job and they need to redone . You gotta do what you gotta do.
But they tell you that you can change in these temporary huts and use the showers in the pool instead. I did this, and will never return until they get renovated locker rooms. The pool area is hot, humid, and stuffy, which is okay if you are swimming wearing a skimpy suit but is not okay if you are clothed and trying to change. They don't even give you a chair to sit on, so you have to hop around and stand on one leg while you put on your pants and socks. Horrible experience and shows their disrespect toward their members. No mirror either so my hair was a mess, and the only showers are the ones in the public pool area. Forget about soap.
They say you can use the girls' and boys' locker rooms only for storage. It's unclear whether you can change in there, plus there are still signs on the door saying that you must be 14 or younger to use it. It's way to awkward for me to disregard those signs.
Don't bother coming here unless you want to arrive and leave in the same clothes you came in and not shower. Even then I wouldn't bother, as the behavior of many members here is annoying. Groups hogging a piece of equipment; members hogging more than one piece of equipment at a time. They do these things even when it's busy. Cleanliness has always been a problem here. Lynn Y doesn't know how to take care of the facilities and I'm not sure they care. The main upside now is if it is less crowded due to no locker rooms, maybe it's now easier to use the equipment.
Salem in nice despite the meter parking situation and the members are cool. They have both a steam room and a sauna, and they maintain it well. I recommend going...
Read moreThis facility is not family friendly. When walking up to the entrance, there was a group of kids calling each other names including swears and derogatory names and trying to fight each other, this was with staff inside looking out the windows watching them and doing nothing. We go into the building with our three kids, 11, 3, and son who is a week and a half away from being 1. We check in and everything seems fine. My husband was walking with our son as I worked out. After about 20 minutes, we were asked to leave the facility as someone complained that my husband was walking with our infant son, who was not crying, yelling, or doing anything. In fact, he was intrigued by the sounds of basketball. We had never had this be an issue before as we did this same thing with our 3 year old for 6 months when she was an infant. This facility only wants to have pre-teen and teenagers or single adults, they are not kind to families or inclusive of families with younger children although there are other Y locations that are and do not randomly decide that this one day it’s an issue to walk with our infant because they had what looked like executives there looking at the gym. If you have an infant under the age of 1 (which is when this locations child watch starts) do not go here. We did have an issue with child watch previously where they were supposed to be open, schedule said it was available and when we got there, it was completely closed and no one knew why so we had to leave. This location is a waste of...
