If you care about your jewelry, do not bring it to this shop. The jeweler will take it behind back and work on the jewelry without your consent/ does not tell the customer exactly what he going to do with the piece of jewelry. For example, he polished off the gold plating on my watch which was a family heirloom and his response was "oh it was scratched so I thought I was doing you a favor". Never let them take it behind back without a plan in place
Edit 11/12 - please stop saying you "fixed" or 'repaired" the watch. You did not solve anything. You caused damage to the watch and tried to fix your own mistake - you were unable to. Therefore not a fix
Edit: 11/1/24 after shops response.
the point of this review is that the jeweler performed a "repair" without consent resulting in damaging a piece the time piece. I asked the clerk what can be done about the scratches on the watch, not to physically perform anything on the watch which is called a conversation. But the jeweler performed the buffing without talking to me. Sometimes a person does not have time to write a review right away before or after life events. Leaving the shop after the "replating" of the time piece, it was evident that they were not capable of fixing their own mistakes. I seemed pleasant when I picked it up because I am respectful to others, but when I know that someone is not capable of fixing a special timepiece I am not going to keep it in their hands.
Also, I never at one point had I said that it had to be a rush job/had to be done in one day or in 10 minutes. This was never about convenience - "saving me a trip" blatant statement to cover one's self. It was about expertise which was not there/shown. This is an expensive watch which should have been taken into consideration. Once you remove the plating it devalues the watch. Any jeweler would have seen this - pay attention to what kind of watch he or she is working on but this was not the case.
Lastly, if you made it this far as you can tell, the owner will try to take your words and spin them so that they are in the right for example. I asked them if I had to pay for the replating initially, not when I picked up the watch. I simply said thanks and walked away with my timepiece.
Just ask yourself, would you trust an electrician who would just start to work on the wiring of your house without stating the problem first? Same concept. Use your own...
Read moreMy experience with Gerlachs Jewelers was amazing from start to finish. I had communicated with an employee named Jason prior to even stepping foot into the establishment. After explaining my vision of what I was looking for over the phone, he made me feel confident and comfortable that it can be done. After visiting the store and speaking with Jason I could not have been more pleased on how professional and knowledgeable he was. Soon after that visit, we had started the process for the custom jewelry. 2-3 weeks later the process was complete and I could not have been happier with the way it turned out! It did not take long for me to realize that this was the only jewelry store I will ever want to go too. The customer service I received explains why they have been around for 80+ years. Overall I would highly recommend Gerlach Jewelers to anyone looking...
Read moreAmazing! I had an engagement ring and wedding band that were hand made by a family friend who has since retired so I took them to a different jeweler to be engraved for our anniversary and the set was ruined. Gerlach's took on the difficult job of restoring my ring set, re-engraving them, and smoothing everything out perfectly (which was a difficult job as the rings are not standard smooth bands). They completely understood how much this piece of jewelry meant to me and took amazing care of it and it now looks perfect. Highly recommend them for any work that you need done. Side note - they also did an amazing job appraising my jewelry and very formally documented everything for me. Again, HIGHLY RECOMMEND and will be having them do all of my jewelry from now on!!! See pics!! (Engraving hard to read from my phone camera but it...
