I have been going to Video Game xchange ever since I moved to the east side of madison 4 years ago. It has always been a great place to buy video games especially if you don't have alot of money. I always take my kids for their stuff there because their prices are very reasonable, Also to let everyone know also I have asked for games behind the counter as well but the reason you cannot buy the games behind the shelf is cause they hold items for a week in case the police come to look for stolen property. Personally I am glad if someone stole my stuff I would want to be able to retrieve it. Although there are a lot of boxes and games behind the counters and the store owner has alot of collectables he has out on the floor to show off. To some neat freaks it may upset them but I like the way things are there. It gives off the feel that I am supporting a real small business with my business not a big chain store. When I have sold games I have always gotten a better deal than when I sold to gamestop or preplayed and when I have bought games there most have been less than or equal to the price at those stores. The owner is very nice but he won't buy things he already has alot of or that the people who frequent his store will not buy so he will say no to some games. He runs specials more than I have seen at other stores as well. If you have kids and you are not looking to buy expencive new games its best to go here cause he only carrys used and some collectable games for the most part so the kids won't even be tempted to ask for a expensive game.
Now the bad thing about the store is that there is no air conditioning in the summer which makes it super hot when you come in but that is no fault of the owner but the people he rents from. There is a large selection for every type of system there is and also movies, tv series and some anime too as well as a few collectables for sale.
In short, in my opinion this store is the best to go to out of Gamestop, preplayed and Video Game X-change for both selling and buying unless you are looking for a new game that just came out. He also buffs my son's games cause my son doesn't take care of his games well. I give the appeal a 2 because the the store not having air conditioning and if you care more about how cluttered the store looks than the merchandice and the prices within then you may not be as positive about it as me. Still for me. I plan to continue to be a frequent...
Read moreVideo Game X-Change is by far the best video game store I have ever been to. Lance(the owner) is a really stand up guy who is very reasonable with his prices, and he treats his customers well. I have bought merchandise and sold merchendise from him and he always is honest with me on what it's worth and what he can afford to buy/sell it for. If you're looking for a great resale store for video games, I cannot recommend this place enough!
I understand why people are upset with how the St. Vincent De Paul video game sale was handled(please check out Pat and Ian's Completely Unecessary Podcast episode featuring the Video Game Exchange/St. Vinnies incident for context), but I know for a fact that many people do the same thing and he was targeted because he owns a store. I'm not saying that I wouldn't be upset if I were in line behind him or anyone with a large container to drop a ton of games into and sort at their leisure while I'm left with nothing, but I don't belive Lance or his store should be judged by this one event alone. And that's what the internet has done, and does in many circumstances like this one. I also know him to be the sort of person who would never willfully or intentionally do anything underhanded or malicious.
The fact remains that Lance has owned and operated Video Game X-Change in the Madison area for over 20 years delivering excellent products and customer service. I will continue to shop/sell there for my video game and...
Read moreI've been going to this place since high school, maybe even middle school. My younger brother and I have very fond memories of not just the place, but the owner as well. Mortal Monday, the releases of Final Fantasy 7, all the snes Street Fighters, etc. This store has always been there for us. I recently was able to visit after several years living in Minnesota, and I'm happy to say nothing has changed. You never could and still can't beat the prices. And while the selection varies depending on what is traded in and sold, I was able to find several games I wanted, one for my 15th month old daughter who is learning how to play the nes. I was able to put her down and she ran around, occasionally taking a game or ten off the shelves, being a child and playing. The same friendliness that I always knew was still there, as it was laughed off. My girlfriend was also with me, who is a huge fan of cds and music. She was able to find a bunch of them there, some she has been looking for and not able to find anywhere else. In the end, everything cost us less than $20, and that's amazing when buying "retro games" and such during this retro craze. This place is a gem, and there is a reason it has been open for so long, because this is how a store such as this is done. The owner, Lance, is and has been an awesome guy since I first met him. He knows his stuff, and his store is more than fair when it comes to prices. I cannot recommend this...
