This bridge opens fairly often during the summertime season and moves very slow. Be prepared to sit at the bridge for at least 10 minutes if you catch it from open to close. The bridge is thin and very highly used by both cars and bikers. There is a curb and sidewalk area some bikers use, but a lot go directly on the road. Lots of backed up traffic in the summer. It is a wonderful surrounding area with the tall sea grass from a kayak or paddleboard just behind the dog beach in manasquan. We love to paddle around and go under the bridge. Fun little adventure!

She's not very pretty, but what a special, old girl she is for sure. Rolling counter weight cable lift, single open deck bascule, primarily timber superstructure. Likely, the last of her kind in the United States. Operable. Despised by many, but adored by enough to keep her safe, if only tenuously. A very special girl, indeed.

Beautiful draw bridge. A national historic landmark, the bridge was built around 1898 and is the only example in New Jersey of a rolling counterweight cable lift bascule bridge. The bridge is still in operation and is a sight to behold.

I am a boat owner, whose slip is at the old Manasquan marina. Haters have to understand this is an old bridge. It cost more to restore it to its original glory then it did to replace the Historic bridge. However, it is, to my understanding, one of the oldest bridges in existence today in the US. Even though I could bypass this bridge by going through the town, I choose to take the chance that I might get caught once in a while. It is a part of history and a slower, calmer, happier time from our past. Every once in awhile you have to slow down and smell...

The bridge opened for one smaller sized boat that did require the bridge to open. After the only boat passed the bridge continued going up to it's maximum height about and two and a half minutes.the bridge then proceeded to lower and it about two minutes to get to the position it was in when the boat passed. This equates to about five minutes of waisted time when the system could be adjusted so that the operator could stop the bridge from rising and begin it's decent. This is not a huge problem in the off season but crucial...
