We recently discovered the beach town of Manasquan . It was a closer drive coming from Pennsylvania for a day trip . Upon first glance , it is a quaint beach town that gives stone harbor vibes. Do yourself a favor and go to stone harbor / Avalon/sea isle- basically any other beach town. This beach town doesn’t seem to want visitors so assuming it’s primarily for locals / residents . Parking is extremely limited . While the beach is nice , on our first visit , while our teen kids were digging a hole for their younger sister , we had the first of what I’m assuming are many “ concerned” residents come up to express her husbands concern about our hole and did we hear about the kid that died when a hole collapsed on the beach . I mean just say you don’t like visitors digging holes at your beach without saying you don’t want visitors digging holes at the beach . Second trip , the beach tags folks charged me for my daughter who should have been free because she was under 11 . When I went back up to her to question the charge she said she couldn’t refund my money . She eventually did because she realized it was her mistake in the first place . This visit , the weather was near 100 and the sand ridiculously hot. Apparently the only coverings you are allowed to have here are umbrellas which we didn’t know . We put up our sun shade and were immediately descended upon by two beach tag staff , telling us we couldn’t have up the sun shade . How umbrellas are safer is beyond me so we had to take our sun shade down . While this is a nice beach, save yourself the hassle of this unfriendly beach town and go...

Next up on visiting the beaches on the Jersey Shore is Manasquan Beach. Manasquan has a mile long asphalt boardwalk, not the prettiest, but it is sturdy and has withstood many storms. You can run, walk or ride your bike. There are beautiful homes along the boardwalk, some of them are summer homes. There are places to eat along the boardwalk and there is also an arcade. It's a pretty long beach, nice and clean. There is a playground on the beach. There's a great surfing beach at the Manasquan Inlet. It gets very crowded during the summer and parking can be a challenge. It's very peaceful and relaxing sitting on the benches by the inlet watching the boats go in and out. It's beautiful, especially at sunrise or sunset. There are two popular restaurants at the Inlet, Carlson's Corner and the Riverside Café. There is a dog beach called Fisherman's Cove on 391 3rd Ave in Manasquan. All dogs must be on a leash. You can go fishing and there is a path for walking, but dogs are not permitted on this path. There is plenty of beach for the dogs anyway to enjoy. The only thing that I didn't like was the many pieces of broken glass along the shore line. I did find a scallop shell! I've never seen...

Lanes are too narrow for people to ride their bicycles in the road. Had a little kid run a stop sign right in front of me almost hitting her. Then while she was in front of me almost fell off her bicycle like immediately after running the stop sign. Scared the day lights out of me. And her responsible mother was directly behind her said nothing. So I said something to her and her response was to me saying I almost hit your daughter. She just ran a stop sign. “ no you didn’t” and some people wonder why their kids end up dying. And then they want to turn around and sue that person and ruin that person’s life. She later had the nerve to come up to me as I was stuck at the bridge and start videotaping me like I did something wrong like I was the bad parent. Manasquan really needs to do something about bikes in the road. Especially little kids. Either mega bike lane or no bikes at all in the road they should be on...

I love this beach. I've gone here two years in a row on a weekend trip from upstate New York. The town is very quaint, quiet and clean. The beach is very well kept. Entrance to the beach is $9 per person age 12+. Kids 11 and younger are free. There is a first aid and restroom near the entrance at Main St. You may have to park a few blocks away on a residential street during the weekend. The beach is mostly lined by houses and only a few small businesses (an arcade, ice cream shop and restaurant). The only downside is that there are no changing rooms and the women's restroom only has 4 stalls. Since I had a 3+ hour drive home with three children, the kids and I took turns going into the restroom one at a time to change out of our swimsuits before the drive, while not hogging the few stalls. Completely worth it though. This beach is quiet, very clean and family friendly.

Family beach, through and through. If Mayberry was a beach town, it'd be Manasquan. The downtown of the town is 1-2 miles from the beach proper, and the beach itself has no real "boardwalk." There's a paved walkway, running from the Manasquan inlet to the north end of the beach. As such, concession areas are limited, but there is still an old-style arcade (Gee-Gee's), but if you're looking for something in an adult beverage, you're going to have to exit the beach. There are public toilets available, and plenty of lifeguards. Entry fee for a day pass is $12, but the easy pace of the town, the cleanliness of the beach and water and the feeling of safety make it well worth the price.
