The return of Bruce’s Beach to the rightful heirs was a landmark moment in attempting to right wrongs of the past. Those heirs sold the land back to Los Angeles County this week for $20 million in a decision that was surprising, but not unexpected. Here are the details. Let’s get into it! Thank you for the tip yesterday @lexiii.mariiie11 !!! #Reparations #Racism #Beach #brucesbeach #ManhattanBeach #LosAngeles #LosAngelesCounty #rightingawrong #lainaminute

Definitely a place full of history. This Beach was once owned by the Bruce's, an african american married couple, which they purchased in 1921. They purchased it in order that blacks across California would have a beach to go to and enjoy themselves. White city officials tried everything in their power to persuade blacks from going to the beach. The tactics were downright dirty. Eventually, in 1924 city officials realized that they could not dissuade blacks from coming to relax and enjoy themselves at Bruce's Beach. The city or county then used the Eminent Domain Law to illegally usurp the land from the Bruce's through racist means. It was not until recently that either LA County officials (possibly LA City Officals) decided to give the land back to the Bruce's through their descendants of the Original Bruce's who purchased the land in 1921. According to some reports, the land is worth $20 million dollars. However, I beg to differ. If you see in person for yourself all the expensive housing located near the beach, you will know that $20 million is an understatement. At any rate, the beach is now black owned. Beautiful piece of property which is the shore of the Pacific Ocean. American History at it's best. Be sure to visit and enjoy yourselves. I enjoyed my time there and will revisit again soon. Thank me later.

While we LITERALLY arrived here 12 minutes before the beach closed at 8pm, we loved this little slice of heaven! The beach was clean, the crowds were sparse and friendly, and there was plenty of parking in two lots in addition to roadside parking. Parking in the lot was incredibly reasonable... I think it was a whole whopping $0.75 for 15 minutes on the meter, and our big dually truck fit just fine in and out. Some of the roads are a little tight towards the lifeguard station, but people were friendly and paid attention and let us through when it was our turn. The sunset was lovely! We'd definitely come here again!

I did this while on a long layover and hoped to score my picture in front of the large stone sign on the hill down, which (unfortunately) was not present, but just the same there was an informational spread close to the beach. Now that it has been returned to its original owners, I look forward to coming down when there is some development 👏🏾 Update: they gave the land BACK. I'm seriously disappointed. This was a great opportunity to start a Renaissance...
