We visited Maplewood Nature Center later in the day, just after the main building had closed for the afternoon—and even though we didn’t get to explore the interior, our visit was still incredibly rewarding. The building closes at 3 PM, but luckily, the trail remains open until a half hour after sunset, giving us plenty of time to take in the natural beauty. The trail was absolutely gorgeous, winding through peaceful woodlands, native plants, and serene open spaces that offered a wonderful escape from the noise of everyday life. It was well-maintained, clearly marked, and accessible, making it easy to enjoy whether you’re just out for a casual walk or a more intentional nature outing. The golden evening light filtering through the trees added a magical touch that made the whole experience feel special. Even without access to the nature center building, the grounds alone are well worth a visit. We saw a variety of birds, butterflies, and native flora, and the tranquility of the trail made it perfect for reflection, photography, or simply enjoying a breath of fresh air. We’d love to return earlier next time to check out the exhibits and learn more about the area’s natural history. If you’re in the area and love spending time outdoors, Maplewood Nature Center is a gem—peaceful, scenic, and a great place to reconnect with nature. Just be sure to arrive before 3 PM if you want to explore the...
Read moreThe Maplewood Nature Center was a great breath of fresh air (pun intended). My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the different types of scenery that entice you as you're walking the trails. This is a beginner trail Great for bird watching.
This is not an extremely long walk (maybe .8 of a mile?) But you do come across some amazing wildlife, wild flowers, and once again beautiful scenery with a boardwalk that goes through the pond/lake.
There is a "Visitor Center" that houses live reptiles and other MN native species ( ie;salamanders, toads, etc). This is a great place for children to learn about the nature and animals of where they live. There is also a small park for kids to play around with picnic tables and a parking lot. They have a butterfly garden, too.
All these years and I had NO idea this was literally a mile from my house.
ONE THING I DO RECOMMEND: the "patio" I guess you could call it near the side/back of the Visitor Center is looking kinda Jungle- like. It's very overgrown.
5 stars....
Read moreFar from a nature center.. Even the developed part of Lebenon hills in Eagan is more of a nature center than this crap shoot of a place. Came here with my four year old and was very disappointed Due to the massive alteration by humans and liqour bottles scattered about, beer bottles and cans stuck onto tree limbs and sitting on benches. Perhaps I am not city enough to enjoy a dump like this. I will say one positive thing about the place and that was a chalk box that my son actually enjoyed near the entrance, other than that id recommend. spending 5 on gas and go to Lebenon Hills in Eagan, its free and 30x the experience this crap...
