I've never chartered a boat before but Capitan Doug made the experience well worth it. Took my family, wife and 2 kids out. I haven't been on a boat in close to 25 years and my family have never been on a boat. We have been considering sailing for some time now but we're unsure if it would be something we actually would enjoy. Our plan was to use this charter experience to see if sailing would actually be something we enjoyed. We loved it. We started out with a very informative briefing on the boats history as well as safety while under way. What an amazing boat with a very interesting beginning. Captain Doug's knowledge of the sea and Bay made for an amazing experience as he told us stories on the history of the Bay which my kids loved. He is very familiar with the conditions of the Bay and made my wife, who started out nervous, feel so relaxed she was able to fully enjoy it. Captain Doug even went a step further and allowed both my kids to participate in actually sailing the ship. They had a great time hoisting the sails and I think it even made them feel like pirates. Overall it was an amazing experience that I would recommend to anyone and everyone looking to get out on the Bay. I can't thank captain...

What an absolutely wonderful experience. I'm plagued by anxiety and this was my first 'outing' doing something new in nearly a decade. Captain Doug was an absolute delight. Being able to experience his wealth of knowledge in the history of Taihoa, the local area, and geographical science was a treat.

I never felt unsafe the entire trip and Captain Doug regularly checked in with our group to make certain everyone was comfortable with his course into the rougher winds and waters. I honestly wished we had booked a longer charter to learn more from Captain Doug.

The views were incredible. The fog rolling off the hills was a sight to behold. It took me nearly 4 hours of travel each direction and it was well worth the effort.

There's is more parking than expected at the marina head. The bathrooms are clean, warm and well stocked. Be certain to bring warm clothes for venturing into the fog line!

Thank you, thank you, thank you for the wonderful experience...

I contacted Captain Doug (rather last-minute) regarding a private sail experience for my husband's 55th birthday. I told him about the challenges that my husband recently faced and how important it was for me to make his birthday as special as I possibly could. He shared ideas with me and we came up with a game plan for the experience. I also shared with Captain Doug the concerns I had regarding certain logistics while my husband and I would be on the boat. He quelled each and every one of my concerns. He had solutions/options for every potential issue I brought up.

Captain Doug begins your education when he meets you at the entrance! He is full of so much knowledge: from boats to the area itself. The water was a bit choppy, so he made necessary adjustments to keep us from flying around the entire boat. It was a top-notch experience from start to finish! Captain Doug is a...

We had an amazing experience out on San Francisco Bay with Captain Doug on Taihoa. Captain Doug was extremely professional and knowledgeable about his craft. He couldn’t have been a nicer guy. The boat has a long history that Captain Doug knows quite well, he shared some cool old pictures and stories about the life of the boat. He shared so many cool/fun facts about sailing, it’s history and pointed out a ton of local landmarks. We even got to partake in some of the sailing as well, tying off a few ropes and steering the boat a bit. We saw some wildlife (Porpoise and Harbor Seals) and just had the best day out there. I hope to use Sail Taihoa again! Thanks Captain Doug! -Jamison Cote

Best Charter Sailboat experience! Captain Doug answered all my questions on the phone the day before our sailing adventure, we were a flight crew of 4 and wanted to see the Bay Area sights on the boat. Captain Doug gave us step-by-step directions on how to meet him in Sausalito and gave us a warm welcome and introduced us to his beautiful boat Taihoa! I love learning the history of the classic wooden boat from New Zealand. You could feel the pride he had owning it well as knowing a lot of history with the Bay Area sights. I loved how we bring our own snacks and drinks they are coolers on aboard and we ended up adding another hour. I highly recommend this experience!
