Just a bunch of floating pontoons, no seating areas, no design ideas, no creativity, no link to nature, no ideas on history of Marlborough.
When I learnt the $$$$$ tag of the grant from the Federal budget that Marlborough had spent on this nonsense, I seriously started questioning if it was worth even 50% of the declared price...
Instead of installing these floating pontoons, the city could've made such a nice shore promenade, with some seating/rest space to enjoy the water views, attracting a couple of cafes, probably linking the theme to nature, or history of Marlborough, or doing something more interesting.
No! This is just a bunch of lake pontoons, nothing else, bought at some ridiculous price on the money from Federal budget. It just looks like someone was interested in buying pontoons from someone else and investing an absolute minimum effort in doing something interesting or creative for people... It will be really interesting if they dismount these pontoons in a couple of years and get that also funded from the Fed budget...
Read moreWalking on the boardwalk was a cool and different experience. The walk is accessible and I saw people with canes and wheelchairs maneuvering on it, which is great. Because it is floating, there is a bit of swaying you can feel. It was a strange sensation. There are good rails to hold on to, but you often feel static shocks when you touch them. We enjoyed how long the boardwalk was, that there were some wider areas to stop and look out, watching the fish and an otter go by, and the views of the greenery on one side. The downsides are that on one side is a major road, parking is tight on a weekend, and someone was out there vaping on the walk (which my daughter is deathly allergic to, so we had to turn back). Parking is available in the lot next door to the courthouse. I believe there is a two mile loop you can walk. Dogs and fishing are not allowed on...
Read moreWe took a nice walk across this week about mid-day, and it was quite pleasant. The parking by the courthouse is going to get full pretty fast, and I suspect new pathways will be needed soon (there's already worn trails).
The boardwalk does wobble and move a bit, so people with mobility issues may have to be careful. There were several groups of high schoolers taking (what I guessed) were prom photos, which i suspect iwll be an ongoing activity.
Also note the walkway is made of linked plastic tiles, and they generate static. There's a bit of a zap when you touch the aluminum railing, just be aware (my trick for this is to slap the railing if you think you've built up static - that way you don't just...
