The volunteer in the visitors center during our visit was very knowledgeable and helpful. We very much enjoyed tapping into her depth of wisdom about the wildlife in the area. The visitors center is small but has some interesting information. There wasn't much to see outside, but we did capture some neat photos of some native birds and the landscape. Be sure to bring shoes you can get muddy if you plan to walk the dirt berm around the pond, especially if it's rained. If you would like a nice, sunny walk, check out the boardwalk just down the road and then walk the beach until you get to the Sugar Beach Resort. Be sure to wear plenty of sunscreen and bring water as there isn't any place to grab a drink at the boardwalk or on the beach until you hit Suagr...
Read moreSeveral ponds set up in the usual National Wildlife Preserve style with paths. Also a trail along the bay and a nice visitor center with interpretive displays. Just remember, this isn't a tourist attraction, it is a working wildlife preserve. Bring binocilars or borrow a pair at the...

The boardwalk is also great for young kids, because the kids are contained on the boardwalk by the well-designed railings. You don't have to worry about any of them falling over into the wilderness. The boardwalk offers beautiful views of the beach and ocean, and the natural vegetation and wildlife. Limited parking, but we got lucky. A great 30-45...
